As a dress gal whose style is currently constrained by baby-nursing, I continue to be on the lookout for great dresses that open in the front. I had seen a black shirtdress like this by Chanel about a year ago and liked its crispness.

Yesterday I went to try it on to see if I liked it as much in person as I did online. I liked it well enough, but I was able to walk away from it, so that is one sign. Also now that I see the photos I look a tad matronly...? But then again it isn't styled yet. The fabric is a rayon-silk blend with a very subtle waffle weave - so it's a little bit matte, which I like. I would definitely wear it for work, so it's not a purchase for an "imaginary lifestyle."

If you vote yay, comments on how to style it in a way that is unexpected yet harmonious? I am thinking a brown cutout belt and brown tall flat boots, or silver-toned statement choker with metallic belt...

The closeup is so that you can see the color better next to my skin.

The blue dress looks splendid! You definitely look good in cooler colors. I think you could do with a wider belt with the blue belt and sit it a little lower on your waist. Could you show us what the dress looks like without the belt on?

The 2nd WIW looks amazing! The purple dress looks awesome on. It's a very sleek look.

YAY for the blue mixed-silk shirtdress! It looks splendid, not matronly, to me, mamaKate! The button-down style is perfect for nursing, and it looks like it could take you anywhere. If you're not CRAZY about it, that's another story. But it looks like a lovely piece.

The second dress is also lovely - a bolder look. YAY if you need it. Would it be a bother, though, to have to get it drycleaned? Pure silk.

I love all the looks! I do think the dress makes you look bustier than the other two outfits do, which isn't necessarily a bad thing...I'm just wondering why that is (and maybe no one else sees it that way, anyway). But you have a rocking figure and there's no reason it can't be dressed for fabness as well as functionality. I would also try the shirt in pic 3 with a blue trouser or something lighter-colored as well as the current black.

I wasn't expecting to like the blue dress after looking at the store picture. But when I saw you in it, wow, I think it looks amazing! I think it's super flattering and love the color on you! (you have shapely legs, btw). I think it would look great styled like you suggested with brown boots, etc. How about with some other funky shoes, like leopard, or something like that? (Ok, I'm really wishing for some leopard print shoes right now, so I'm biased) I also really like dress #3, too.

@Sharon, yes, I am long-waisted and I agree the dress would look better with belt placed lower. Unfortunately the dress is still at the store so I can't show more pictures yet.

@Jem the sales associate also suggested funky shoes, so you are right on!

I think the blue dress is gorgeous! Something about the proportions in #3 look a little off to me, maybe it is the shorter shirt with the shorter pant? Loving #4 though! So cute with the booties!

Mamakate, may I interrupt our regular programming to say that your hair is looking incredibly sharp and fantastic in these pics?

On the dress: I love it! Not matronly at all, not once you have styled it. The fabric looks like a terrific quality. And I am grateful to see a Classiques Entier item posted because whenever I'm considering taking the plunge and ordering from Nordstrom's I wonder about their stuff.

Like amyreh, I'm not 100% sure about the proportions in #3, but I love, love, LOVE #4 on you. Very sophisticated and sharp.

@Suz, thank you for the nice compliment. I just got my hair cut on Friday - same style as usual - but it's a cut that really works for my face.

I have had a TON of successes with the CE line at Nordies. It runs a tad large on sizing.

I like all the looks but #4 is my favorite. Very lovely on you!
Of the two Nordstrom links I personally like the #2 dress better than #1 although a different belt would be better.

Love the blue dress. I always want to wear shirt dresses, but can't. You CAN. The color is fab and can be accessorized (or not) at whim. Parisian chic anyone?
Also liking the top in 3 (of course I rarely see an orange top (ok I just read it's red my 2nd favorite color) I don't like) yours is perfect and will transcend seasons well.

I'd say yay to the blue shirtdress with tall brown boots, etc. like you described. With the hip accessories(and your cute hairdo) I can't see it looking matronly at all.
