Belting a long sweater over a dress

I tried something new ... was brainstorming how to layer up that grey sack dress (that I've posted before) for fall. Do you think it works?

omg I absolutely love it. The way the dress peeks out at the bottom is perfection. And the BOOTS! So amazing.

The layering effect is fab Laura, and you wear belts so well, admiring sigh! That dress is turning out to be a very versatile piece!

By the way: thanks for the heads-up about that voluminous dress on Angie's post last week. It's definitely calling my name, but I'm shushing it for the time being, need to watch my budget;-)

Oh, thanks everyone for the encouragement. I am not sure if the belt will stay in place, but it's elastic, so I'm hoping it will (also it has a nice girdling effect!!).

Ingrid, funny you should mention it, I am keeping an eye on that dress too! I'll let you know if the price drops. Another stalking project to keep us busy

Not sure about the booties and the ankle length stockings. Think you can take a more straight on picture?

Yes, I like this look, although I would pair it with a different shoe. I wish I could pull off wide belts like this!

I'm new, so I don't trust myself to give advice on the shoe yet. But everything else looks good to me.

Hmmmm. This look IS a little tricky. I know it could work with a boyfriend cardi but I was trying to work with a voluminous cardi just to ramp up the challenge to myself

By the time Angie returns, I'll get my husband to take a photo of me in this outfit again -- otherwise it's hard to get one that's not angled. Also I'll try taller boots, to see if it looks better not showing a break between leg and boot. I hope to make this work!

Laura I agree another pic would be good, but so far it works for me!! I tried belting a draped cardie, and felt like Obi Wan Kenobi. You have a tiny little waist so I think you pull it off!!!

Oh, Obi Wan -- too funny! Perhaps I am being subconsciously influenced by my sons' Star Wars DVDs ... I should put the hood up and walk around with one of their light sabers. Could scare a few kids in the neighborhood

I have the sweater on today, belted over a lightweight black sack dress and Me Too ballet flats. It's working for me so far, but I tend to fuss a lot with belts, so we'll see if I can wear this without going crazy today.

Rose, I'd have to try on that top because of the way it's cut at the hips -- if you have narrower hips than I do, it might be a wonderful layering piece!

Are you wearing a leather or an elastic belt Laura? I have a couple of elastic belts that came with dresses I bought, and I'm suprised to find myself liking them. They really sit in place and feel less fussy to me than leather belts!

Thank you Taylor, you are soooo sweet! You have put a smile on my face very early this morning. This one is still tricky. I don't do that well with belts in general -- always fussing. And I found wearing this that I did fuss with it a lot. Still, I really like the look so much that I'll keep wearing it. If you were living near me you would be welcome to come and borrow it anytime
