I had a really hard time selecting a picture so I decided to make it even more of a game. I'm going to Filipino food tonight so I decided to look for works by famous Filipino artists. I chose Vendors from the Marketplace by Vicente Manansala.

I loved the bright colors and the almost dizzying effect of the white in the center of the piece. I tried to bring in color elements as well as physical representations of items they wore or carry.

I initial just had this on: http://gallery.me.com/rmunger#.....olor=black
Then I added the belt: http://gallery.me.com/rmunger#.....olor=black
Then I added the jacket, which I think really pulled it together: http://gallery.me.com/rmunger#.....olor=black

For the basis of my outfit I mostly looked at the woman: denim pencil skirt for the blue skirt she is wearing, white tee for her shirt. I also didn't want the materials of these pieces to be too high-brow. I brought in the yellow shoes and tank because there is so much gorgeous yellow in the painting. It's not shown, but I'm carrying a red purse, just as she carries the watermelon. I also have a red/coral necklace on to represent the red handkerchief the man is wearing around his neck. There is some brown in there, which the belt represents. Since the woman's skirt is not all one dark color, I added the light jacket to pull out those brighter parts from her skirt. Lastly, I chose the other wooden necklace to bring in the colors from the basket on her head and to add an earthy element to the outfit.
