A couple WIWs and new blue booties

Not my most exciting outfits, and frankly, I'm tired of summer dressing, but I thought I'd share since I actually bothered to take photos, however hurriedly.

#1 was for a funeral yesterday. One of my radio colleagues from years past -- we worked at two different stations together, and he was a great guy. He had the most wonderful, laid-back NPR-ish delivery for a music DJ, and was a big influence on me (I was 22 and a big fan when I started working at the first station with him). I did a brief set of music for him yesterday at the station where I work now, and got a bunch of nice phone calls and Facebook messages thanking me for the tribute.

It was a hot day, so I kept it simple. Grey wide-leg trousers, black silk Theory drape-front top, animal print kitten-heel pumps, cuff, and animal print bag. In retrospect, I think I could have used a necklace, but I felt pretty good in this, considering the circumstances.

#2 was for running errands on Monday. The Zara leopard print skirt is a semi-orphan because it stretches out and wrinkles a bit with wear, and it can't be worn with hosiery, so it just doesn't come out to play very often. I dressed it down with my big white western shirt from Anthro and my casual tan Born wedges that may not look terribly fab but are extremely comfortable for a shoe with some height to it. Added the Madewell clutch, which got several compliments. What do you think about these shoes? They are such workhorses I hate to think they're unfab, but I may be in the market for a replacement next spring.

#3-8 New booties that were my birthday discount treat from Anthro! They're by Boutique 9 and are quite comfy, so I'm thinking they are a big keep. In my footwear clean out, I decided I would like some pointier-toe, more refined boots or booties, and I love the blue color of these (which works for a neutral for me), the modified wedge heel, the moderately pointed toe, and the silver accent on the heel. It's the same pair of boots in both sets of pictures - the ones in the mirror just look quite dark.

I am sorry about the loss of your friend. You look great in both of these outfits. The shoes in #2 look fine to me, but oh my gosh I love those blue boots!

I'm really sorry for the loss of your friend. You dressed in a very appropriate and pretty way to honor him. I like the pattern of the bag and shoes to add some interest.

I love your Madewell clutch. Wow, does that ever elevate a casual outfit. That is just the kind of clutch I need. You are fab in a wide leg trouser and a pointy toe Janet. Just sayin. I can't get a good look at your nude sandals, but the wide straps keep them from veering into the "comfort sandal zone" I think. New blue booties are out. of. this. world. Yeah, that's a keep!

I love the blue booties, but worry about the gaping ankle, Janet. It's just not that type of style, which in my mind needs to fit sleeker on the ankle. But it's fine if you wear them under trousers and jeans. What do you think?

I love the booties! I think we may be shoe twins -- are the shoes in #1 Nine West wedges? I would say these are boring at all. One woman's boring is another woman's fashionable

Angie, I would mostly be wearing these booties with jeans and trousers -- maybe with skirts/dresses and hosiery, probably not bare legs, which I think helps mitigate the gap. I have other boots and booties that are better for skirts/dresses.

Day Vies, the pumps in 1 are Nine West but they're kitten heels, not wedges. I've had them for years -- they have aged surprisingly well!

Janet, so sorry to hear about your friend. But wow, you looked perfect for the event. Polished, respectful, yet relaxed. (Well, as relaxed as anyone can be in that situation...and I am sure your attire put others at ease.)

I think the Borns are neutral and not frumpy. I would keep them. A comfortable shoe with a heel is hard to find.

I had ordered (and sadly returned) those same booties but mine were more navy. Maybe it's just the photos that make yours look more blue. I loved the heel and the silver detail on them but the wider ankle just didn't work for me. I wanted to wear them with straight or skinny pants/jeans (over the boots because I don't usually tuck my pants for wearing to work) and there was just too much gap on the boot.

So sorry to hear of your friend's passing. Your outfit to say your goodbyes was both stylish and respectful. #2 is a lovely look too. You accessorised beautifully, I'm not surprised your clutch gets comments.

Janet, I hesitated to post but I see the same thing as Angie... Maybe it's because my bright booties have largely been orphaned but I'd also like to see how you'd style them. It's definitely a good color for you. I do have a bit of poison eye for this shape but I know you love it!

Susie and Una, they are more navy than the close up photos appear. The real color is probably right in between the two shades in these photos. They're really not bright at all. Pretty much a neutral for me.

I feel like the gap in these is very manageable. I think it's exaggerated in the close ups because of the contortions I had to do to photograph my feet. The mirror shots do a much better job of showing the fit.

Una, too bad we don't wear the same shoe size -- I could send you all my clunkier shoes as I embrace pointy toes again!

I like the wide leg pants outfit - may file it away for future reference. I think the Born wedges look fab as does the skirt, however the blue booties are the stars.

I see the color difference between the different photos now and I love the color. I also see what you mean about the fit being better with the straight shot and i think they will work for you. I really did want to keep them, it's a gorgeous boot.
