When I heard that Boy George was spinning a set of 80's music at the David Bowie exhibit in Chicago, I knew I had to get there! I posted in YLF forum and to my surprise and delight, BJ1111 said she would be there too! What could possibly be better than enjoying a night of 80's fun with someone who appreciates 80's fashion as much as you do?!
Here we are in at the exhibit at the MCA (yes I got permission to post friends and spouses faces). We both wore tuxedo based outfits. Mine was a reprise of the outfit I wore to the Blondie concert last year - Thrifted R&B tux vest that I picked on at a YLF meetup, Angie approved YLF animal booties, NAS faux leather pants and, for the final 80's touch, black lace fingerless gloves. BJ1111 wore a white tux jacket with black lapels, grey jeans with funky over the knee socks and black booties.
We were not the only ones dressed our 80's finery.... everyone there was dressed either 80's Boy George or David Bowie style, or just plain fabulous disco dancing fun. Chicago knows how to turn it out. It was one fine looking crowd!
Pictures 4, 5, and 6 were taken the next day at the exhibit. If you are in Chicago, I highly recommend this show. Even if you are not a Bowie fan, go for his influence on art, fashion and culture. They have all of his iconic outfits from all stages of his career. It is worth seeing just for that. I got my face painted with the Aladdin Sane lightening bolt. I didn't wash it off all day.... then I kept forgetting that I had it on and was wondering why people kept looking at me funny all day. Pic 6 was a "Riders on the Storm" jacket the museum was selling in the gift shop. David is obsessed with it. It zippers your face all the way inside. It has integrated goggles and a mouth piece. I can see that it would be really useful in below zero temps and crazy wind. I wouldn't let him buy it though... just seeing him in it puts me in a state of future apocalypse fear....
It was a completely FAB weekend in Chicago. I loved meeting up with BJ111 and getting to knew her and her husband in real life. Spending time with them was definitely one of the highlights of this trip!
