Hi everyone -
Here are two recent outfits.
The first outfit is a new denim skirt I just purchased. I had cream shoes on for something else and forgot to change them for the picture. I don't know that I would wear this color shoe with the outfit again.

In the second outfit please pardon my crooked necklace. I wore this to a playdate and was very annoyed because my friend, in front of the other mother, said I wasn't going to want to play outside with the kids because I might get dirty and ruin my clothes. I was so startled that I didn't have a good comeback. I felt so awkward the rest of the day. I don't feel the outfit was too over the top.

Julie, I think your playdate outfit is perfectly appropriate. Don't let other people ruin your confidence! I had a similar situation at my in-laws. The next trip I dressed like them and felt really bad about myself. Be the best you can be, and you'll feel fabulous every time.

Both your outfits look great on you. I'd like to see a belt with the sweater you are wearing with your denim skirt. Your playdate outfit looks casual but together, very appropriate.

I'm sorry your friend ruined your whole day. I don't think this outfit is over the top for a mom-on-the-go and a playdate - it's adorable, appropriate, and you look absolutely fab.

Love the denim skirt too. I saw several this weekend - I think at AT if I recall. Funny to see them now, when I haven't seen any all summer long. Which brand is yours? It's perfect length.

Julie, I'd wear that playdate outfit in a minute. I think you were perfectly dressed. It's been mentioned before that women probably say things like that because they aren't happy with themselves or the way they're dressed. I hate that women are like that. Don't let it get to you!

first outfit: green looks great on you! i could see you pairing the outfit with metallic, yellow, pink, blue or white flats.

second outfit: i adore it! it's a perfect mom-on-the-go look! love the colors!

i'm sorry your friend's comment bummed you out. hopefully all of our comments on how fab you looked will outweigh one snide remark! she probably was just a bit envious that she didn't look as good!

I think your play date outfit is fabulous and very appropriate. She probably said that because she felt bad about what she was wearing (and maybe was a little envious).

Jeez, women can be so mean. I think you look fabulous. And that outfit is perfectly capable of getting a little dusty on a playground!! Love both of them!

That’s such a shame. Pity the person making the snide remark. They’d give their eye tooth to look half as stylish and pretty as you. What you’ve probably done is secretly inspired them. I’m willing to bet on it.

Julie, you look amazing in both outfits, and the second one is positively fabulous. I love the Br top with the clamdiggers and flats; and the skirt and green top in the first photo are great as well.

Please ignore the snide remarks made by that person. Your outfit was beautiful and perfectly appropriate. She was probably just feeling self-conscious and envious of great you looked.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I'm glad I'm not off track in what is appropriate mom on the go clothes! It is helpful to know there is a stylish group of women behind me. Patience - I will definitely keep that come back line for the next time! I wish I could have thought of that then!

The denim skirt is actually from Talbots. I don't really shop there much, but I saw this skirt and thought I would try it. It is similar to a JCrew one that I admired, but JCrew never fits me. I really like the fit of this skirt and it is very comfortable. I felt there were not a lot of denim skirts this spring and summer, but now there seem to be more of them. There is one I like from Boden and from Garnet Hill! The chore chart for jesswnukow is from Toys to Grow On. They are a catalog company with fabulous toys.

Both outfits are great! I love the skirt on you. I looked it up on talbots website..it looks rather short on the model,but it looks like it's below the knee on you- I'd like to get it but not if it is above knee length. thanks.

You look just right in both outfits. Hopefully, the person who made the mean remark feels bad about it now-probably she is searching madly online for something similar!

I love your denim skirt. Do you think it would work for an hourglass? I tried on one at ATL this weekend-too tight in the hips, too loose in the waste. I suppose it could be altered, but I don't want to mess with that if I don't have to! Thanks.

Like everyone else, I don't think the outfit was over-the-top at all. It's perfectly appropriate for going over to someone's house. Sounds like her jealousy was peeking out, that's for sure. Take it as a compliment.

Love the first outfit. It's inspired me to try to put together a similar outfit with one of my blue sweaters.

As a SAHM, I can really appreciate these outfits. Both are great. As for your friend, she was feeling self-conscious b/c you looked so put-together; I guarantee it. That playdate outfit was perfect, and totally something I'd wear to a playdate.

Well Julie, I honestly don't know how you could possibly enjoy yourself outside, with a crooked necklace either! That lady must be one of those people who can't say anything nice, so they look for mean spirited things to say. I love both your outfits, and I don't see how denim capris = too dressed up for anything. Also, FWIW, I liked the cream shoes with the first outfit. That color green is fab on you!
