The ‘70s have been making a fun, fashionable comeback this year and there’s no stopping the Retro trend. Both the Glam and Bohemian vibes of the ‘70s bring with them a typical ‘70s colour palette of earth tones like brown, beige, burgundy, forest green, rust and mustard.

When I call something a fringe trend I mean that it’s “new”, quite exclusive and only available in small quantities at retail. One such trend is the cropped flared jean. The style is much like a pair of bootcuts, but to twelve inches shorter. The fit is sleek on the leg and kicks out at the hem, which is different to culottes that fit wider from the hips down.

Espadrilles are an iconic classic, which gives them a high longevity factor (much like Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers). Some seasons though, espadrilles gain momentum and become more fashionable, like they are doing for Spring and Summer 2015. This was not a trend that I forecasted or expected to see, so it’s been fun being caught by surprise.

Bucket bags are barrel shaped with a top drawstring closure and shoulder strap. They have been a fringe trend for four years, but have battled to gain momentum. That changed this year, with the style once again going mainstream like it did back in the ’90s.

Cropped pants with low and mid rises have been mainstream for three years and are still very fashionable. But their high-rise cousins, as seen below, are more of a fringe trend. They have a waistband at — or close to — the natural waist (the narrowest part of your waist). This accentuates the curve from waist to hip.
