As I mentioned in a recent Spring and Summer trends report, emerald green is having its fashion moment. You can see it come down the runways in full force on my Pinterest board. Some call it jade, Kelly or grass green.

The Modern Retro track pant has been a fringe trend for five years, and is quite the acquired taste. It’s gaining a bit of momentum with sports brands like Adidas bringing back the look, and mainstream retailers like Anne Taylor incorporating the vibe their own way.

Pom-poms in fur, faux fur, wool, silk, felt, feathers and polyester, across all sorts of sizes and colours, are having their fashion moment. It’s odd to refer to it as a trend, because the pom-pom is a timeless design detail that’s always in style. It’s a modern classic having its trendy moment and becoming more popular than usual, suddenly gaining traction and visible everywhere.

Ruffles and flounces on sleeves are extremely fashionable, part of the Modern Retro trend, and completely mainstream. The bell sleeve silhouette — true to its name — flares out at the hem resembling the shape of a bell. You’ll find bell-shaped sleeves all over solid and patterned shirts, blouses, knitted tops and dresses. They’re as lovely on jackets, cardigans and coats, although not as popular as bell-sleeved tops.

Velvet was supposed to be one of the biggest trends for Fall & Winter 2016, but that was not the way it turned out. I saw a few velvet jackets, skirts, dresses, shoes, scarves, belts, coats and bags to wear for the holidays at the end of last year.
