Metallic jackets go mainstream

January 29th, 2008

The space age trend started coming through last year and there’s no stopping it for 2008. Metallic trapeze jackets, biker styles, blazers and trenches are an ultra modern, fashion forward look that has just recently gone mainstream. Metallic jackets are not created equally and you’ll find that some are more overtly shiny than others. If you like the idea of wearing a silver or gold jacket that’s not that shiny, choose one in a natural fiber like cotton or linen. The effect of metallic fiber (lurex) woven together with natural fiber is more subtle, than metallic fiber woven together with non-organic fiber. I purchased a metallic linen jacket last season and it’s an indispensable neutral in my wardrobe for both daytime and evening.

A collection of subtle and very shiny metallic trapeze jackets, bikers, trenches and blazers. I like this look best with jeans or over a dress.

I’ve been wanting a metallic jacket. I like the first two but they’re a little pricey for me. I like the Ralph Lauren too but I think I’d rather have silver than gold. I guess I’ll keep looking.

I bought my college-age daughter a silver trench for Christmas. It was gorgeous on her, and I was jealous that I didn’t have one! But I don’t exactly need a trench in Florida!

Joey, you’d wanted an answer on whether metallic jackets were appropriate in a conservative work environment, and I do believe that they are if you go the subtle metallic route in a natural fiber like this blog entry suggests.

Hi there!
What a cool blog! This entry about the metallic jackets caught my eye in the BlogRush widget on my blog at http://stylecommander.com ! Metallic jackets go with just about everything! Since you obviously like fashion, I wanted to tell you about a wardrobe organizer site that I run- http://fashionmash.com

Fashion Mash provides online tools to help people organize their wardrobe into outfits, get feedback from their friends on their combinations, and explore new looks. We want to encourage indie designers, clothes for real people, eco-friendly design and sustainable living.

I’d love to hear what you think about Fashion Mash & if you would be interested in a blogroll link exchange with Stylecommander.com

Thanks!

I just splurged on a light beige metallic jacket – I love the jacket but since I’m into bright colors, I’m struggling with how to brighten it up and exactly what types of things to wear it with. Also, is it suitable to wear during the day or just evening/more dressy events?

Metallic jackets are great worn during the day, as long as you dress them down with jeans. This blog entry might help:

In “More Magazine” July/August 2008 edition, on Page 89 I think Jennifer Beals is wearing the jacket in the middle. I would love to have that jacket, any ideas on where to purchase it, for less then $2000.00?
