Zara lately

All winter long I wanted pretty much every single thing at Zara.

Now -- nothing.

I just looked at 100 tops on their site, 95 of which could only be worn by braless pixies.

What's the deal over there? Anyone have a recent Zara purchase that might renew my faith?

Well, I am sort of a bra-less pixie. Not literally, but. You get the idea.

I bought this one.

My problem with many tops is too-open necklines and lack of structure.

I ordered two tops but sent them back from not liking the material, so I'm no help. Both were stiff and scratchy and hot.

I was perusing last night and noticed the same thing! All the arm holes seem as large as head holes and the cuts make them impossible to wear with a bra. I have been wanting to give Zara a go, but came to the conclusion that they might not be for me. This summer anyway. Sorry, no help. But commiseration!

It is always that way for me with Zara - one time I want everything, the next nothing. The stock changes so fast that I know it will switch again soon.

HH -- yes, and even if you were a candidate for bralessness, you'd need a fair amount of fashion tape to keep everything covered.

Suz -- that's one of the 5 or so tops under which one could actually wear a bra. Very pretty!

Well, I love all of the jackets and blazers that I saw on the website recently...but haven't seen any of them in person lately. I must say I love Zara designs but their quality is variable.

Another "NOT a bra-less pixie" here. I bought 3 tops but sent them back, as the fit was really off. But I find that about Zara often. Back to Nordstrom's for me.

Actually, I have to hold myself back from not spending hundreds of dollars at Zara each time I visit this season - which is weekly. Maybe I'm a braless pixie who wears pretty bras?

I have a problem with their one size fits all knitwear at the moment though - which is size M. I drown in it. And I love high necklines - of which there are very few.

I never love Zara for summer because they use so much sweaty polyester!

Deb, some of Zara's hectically oversized knitwear is only being made in one side - an M. I guess they believe that it doesn't matter how it fits. Well - does to Queen Pedantic About Fit. xo

Diana and Deb, I am glad I am not alone on the polyester thing! I was just on Zara's website last night trying to find something. Every single item that I eyed had enough polyester content to be a dealbreaker. *sigh*

I thought I was the only one with this problem! When I step into Zara I never ever find tops that are not deep/wide necked or super sheer or have huge arm holes. I have had good luck with bottoms, jackets and shoes though :). DH although found two tops for me (in his US trip) and I love both. Seriously .... How can that even happen?

Mango on the other hand gets me and I love their tops!

Echo most everyone else on the quality. Tops never available in sizes suitable for a 38" chest, with or without bra Jackets are really good this year, whether or not the style "works" for me. I don't even bother with their pants, again, the larger sizes never available in store. That and you have to bring help with you to retrieve additional sizes or dress/undress multiple times. Love that pistachio jacket you bought Angie. Similar shape to the cream one of yours I also love, but the neckline is too high for me, so no twins for us, LOL.

Angie, what a great jacket. It's not available in Canada. Boo! (Not that I can wear that colour, but still....) Sometimes it takes a week or two for them to add it to the Canadian site, so maybe we will get lucky.

How different is it to your white one in cut?

Oh, I hae been stalking that one on the US site!! I hope it makes it to Canada. I tried the tomato one but I just couldn't get over the tacking stitch, even though I loved everything else about it.

I guess I am fortunate that I am most Often a Zara M!

Angie, no matter how pretty your bra might be, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't wear the top shown below.

I'm beginning to see the problem here. It's tops I need, and tops that Zara is not providing for me this season. I have sworn off buying more jackets, and their jackets are, as usual, fabulous.

True, April. I'd feel far too naked - and COLD.

Ceit, what is it with you and me and tacking stitch? It was such a gorgeous jacket otherwise.

Suz, high five. Zara is one of the few places where I get a good fit.

The lime and white jackets are a similar angular and boxy silhouette. Completely different colour and fabrication - and slight differences in styling.

I think Angie an Ceit are referring to a red jacket that they both ordered from Zara, Vildy. And it had that kind of visible stitching in white (or cream) -- large stitches that look like tacking (you know, rough sewing just for testing a garment while you're making it -- intended to be pulled out) . This was detail on the outside -- meant to be decorative. But too fussy for Angie's or Ceit's style.

Its not just Zara, everywhere I usually shop seems overrun with poly this year...not much cotton unless it's a tshirt, and silk seems hard to find, too. The knitwear has been the only appealing look in tops, and I can only do so much of that...
