My HEWI is a midi or maxi summer looking dress in a spring color that I can wear to an outdoor wedding in July on a cliff overlooking the ocean on the Big Sur coast. I'm grandmother of the bride so there's that. One never knows what the weather will be like and I need a nice topper to be prepared. Also, I hate long sleeves these days. What do you suggest?

Reasonably priced modest summer dress with cotton lining that doesn't strangle my waist yet gives my IT body some shape.

A flattering swimsuit/tankini.

Knee high boots that fit my narrow calves and are versatile enough to be dressy as well as casually edgy.

Bonnie, could you look for elbow length sleeves? They can look elegant.

Bonnie: I really like the Natori dresses at the Natori.com site. Modern prints and cuts. Or if you are feeling boho, Johnny Was or Hale Bob. Or if you want something more flapper inspired, Hobbs has some options.

@karen23: Lace-up shoes tend to fit me best, too. Not sure whether your desired spring/fall jacket is for outdoors; regardless, I am finally learning that upper arms need to be cut loose enough to accomodate all kinds of sleeves. If you get a Full Serious Suit, you would have to clean both pieces together all the time vs just buying dress pants. (Can you see my bias?) Sewing your S/S dresses sounds intriguing but you must, must, must show us when you're done!

@Joyce: I hadn't heard of Toast but will now have to check them out!

@cat2: Good to know about Talbots for belts and gauzy pants. I used to shop there decades ago, but now that they are a few blocks off my beaten path and DH is constantly with me I haven't stopped by.

@Lisa: Side stripe trousers sound fun. One would think navy footwear would be more available, right? Same with no-string summer and other pants. Hate those strings!!! Tank tops that aren't so loose that they show everything or so tight and short that they reveal everything, c'mon guys.

@Jonesy: I love pointy toes so I hope you find those tall brown boots! Would love to see what color sneakers you find interesting. I love seeing what sneakers Steph Curry wears to each game and who he supports from Sabrina Ionescu to Kobe. His sneaker closet must be larger than my house.

@Bonnie: The wedding sounds beautiful; I imagine in the 60s or possibly 70s with wind or at least quite a breeze? Definitely not hot.

@AJ: Angie would have personal knowledge of boots for slim calves, but let me know as well since that is a struggle my daughter has. I have no doubt you will find the right dress and swimsuit or tankini.

So much for now! Hope everyone finds the treasure(s) they seek.

@DonnaF, I could use both, I think. I have trouble dressing up. At this point, I have only one topper that fits, it's a denim blazer with a lot of mileage on it. That and the remaining office cardigans. For outdoors, I've got a pretty good Columbia fleece jacket and an Eddie Bauer raincoat. And a brown car coat, which is a cool-weather item.
As for the Serious Black Suit, I could probably order suit separates out of a catalog. I didn't wear those clothes very often the last few years - mostly it was for interviews or promotional interviews, memorial services or (with a more colorful blouse or sweater) to the opera or something. Now people don't dress up as much for some events except on opening night, which is not when we go. And my husband isn't that into dressing up. So I'm re-thinking it.

You know, I went to NYU, and our mascot was the Fighting Violets, whatever that means. I had a heather gray tee that said "NYU FOOTBALL" in purple letters. People who saw it had to think about it...there is no football team. Wherever would there be room for a college stadium in Manhattan?

HEWI for me would be good or great hats. None seem to be quite right now.
