Your favorite lip moisturizer

For some reason, all of a sudden in the last few months, my lips are constantly dry. I’ll put on my usual lip balms and half an hour later I feel I need more.

Does anyone have a favorite long-lasting, intensive lip moisturizer they recommend? I am really sensitive to smells/tastes in these things too, and my old favorite has a slight vanilla taste/smell, which I really like. A lot of lip balms feel too waxy or drying to me, or smell/taste unpleasant.

I have tried and am using lots of different lip balms, but the absolute favorite for when my lips are very dry is the old fashioned Smith’s rosebud salve: https://www.sephora.com/produc.....lve-P42204. It is a miracle worker as long as you like the scent. This is the original, but so think they may have different ones with different ssents.

At night I use the Laneige lip sleeping mask. During the day, my favorite is the Shea Moisture shea butter lip balm. And when I go out I use a balm with sunscreen.

I'll second Smith's Rosebud Salve. Great for dry cuticles too. Aquaphor also saved my lips when I was in Arizona last month.

I also think Smith Rosebud Salve is the best. I definitely get sick of that aroma (and don't love their other flavor, strawberry, either) so I have been using Vaseline lip balm with cocoa butter scent. I can't tell if it's less good or just that I definitely have more dryness these days because twice a week I use a prescription retinoid cream. Not on my lips, but I think it drifts around while I sleep.

It's best for overnight and might be too thick for day if you want to wear lipstick. Also, it doesn't have SPF which I like for day. But for overnight it really lasts and make a difference by morning.

O’Keefe’s, O’Keefe’s, O’Keefe’s. Chemo dries me out and I was reapplying Chapstick, Vaseline, Burt’s Bees — you name it — constantly. but I use this 3 times a day, max. And I no longer need the overnight lip mask. I have about 6 of them stockpiled in a drawer.

I too was suddenly finding certain lip balms starting to dry out my lips instead of moisturizing them, but then Bioderma was recommended to me.

I find them terrific, they're unscented, not waxy at all, and extremely soothing.

Dr. Lipp is everything! I have tubes everywhere and a few spares in the linen closet. It does not have a lanolin smell at all, and is super thick so it lasts. I've tried eveything since I had eczema for years and the steroids left my mouth and chin so sensitive. I also use it on my cuticles and eyebrows.

I was going to say what Dee said. Many lip balms actually dry your lips in the long run rather than moisturize them. I suggest you stop using the one you have been using lately and see it there is an improvement. Maybe you have developed an intolerance to one of the ingredients.

LaRoche Posay Cicaplast lipbalm. It is great for cracked and chapped lips in winter. Recommend to me by pharmacist when my daughter was little and had painfully cracked lips, they healed in a day.

Lansinoh nipple cream works wonders. It’s made for nursing mothers, and also is great for dry lips. It’s 100% lanolin, so it’s very thick and long-lasting after you apply it. I also massage it into my nails sometimes. You can get it on Amazon.

Humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acid draw water to them, so if you use these ingredients alone in a lip balm they will draw moisture out from your lips and it evaporates, leaving lips drier than before, especially if you live in a dry environment. Using them in combination with an occlusive like shea butter or beeswax will keep the moisture from evaporating. You can layer, or find a single lip product that contains both.

Another plug for the Laneige lip sleeping mask. Sephora has had it in a smaller size in their “samples” section and the tiny tub is lasting me forever. A little dab before bedtime goes a long way.

I also find that occasionally exfoliating helps. About once or twice a week (usually before running) I’ll exfoliate with a Lush lip scrub. It’s essentially castor sugar with some jojoba oil and shea butter mixed in so I suppose one could DIY a lip scrub. (Also one tub lasts me an extremely long time.)

I like Burt’s Bees moisturizing lip balm. Coconut and pear is my favorite.

You've got loads of suggestions but I'll add Eucerin Aquaphor jelly (or the lip balm on a pinch) to the list ... It's the only thing I can use on my lips for moisturizing, which are super sensitive to scents, lip balms, toothpaste, you name it! Fwiw, the more 'natural' stuff is actually the absolute worst for me ... Especially anything with essential oils etc, are extremely harsh for me. Worth testing if you are noticing new dryness or peeling. Good luck!

Like a few people mentioned, the few times I have tried lip balms, they have only made my lips dried out and painful. I do much better without them!
