LOVELY. You look so romantic and your artistic nature is showing. I love this look for you.

Maya, this is such a pretty, romantic, and elegant outfit!! I hope you will have loads of opportunities to wear it! Absolutely fantastic!
The skirt seems to fit well, actually (I recall you wondering about whether to order the next size up on another thread).

Maya, you look sooo beautiful. What a soft and romantic look. I love your lace top.

Watch out, lwc is going to have another Fred Sanford heart attack when she sees this!

Well done!

KILLER.

Absolutely GORGEOUS in every way, Maya! SO elegant, polished and pretty. Those grey mary janes are FABULOUS. I want those. Think of me when you want to give them up :0)

So, you’re still in your 20’s, but as you get older, this type of outfit will seem less formal (sans the lace). With a black blouse and possibly dressy flats, this would be an everyday outfit for me – but then I’m a fashion stylist and I err on the dressy side.

I think the lace and pearls put it over the top in terms of dressiness. Without those (or at least one or the other), I think I would be more likely to wear it...though it is still dressy for me.

I love the gray MJ's, I just prefer them with jeans or pants, or a very casual skirt. You can still buy them Angie. They're pretty inexpensive and in your size!

Maya, you look stunning! Next time you come to Boston, bring this and DH and I will take you out somewhere you can wear it and not feel overdressed. (Okay so that's not very romantic... but the offer stands!)

I love that purse in particular, and agree that the skirt seems to fit just right.

You look so ladylike! Very well done with the challenge, and it was a hard one!! I had no idea that funky modern Maya even owned any lace

Beautiful! I understand that it feels dressy, but to Angie's point it will feel less and less so as you get older. You have to wear it on your next remotely dressy occasion, are there any coming up at all?
I agree with others, the skirt fits great.

Nice job Maya, Sounds like a great offer from Shiny:)

BRAVO!!!
I knew that you would pull off something sensational and it is just what I had in mind. It is soft, romantic and elegant. The textures are so beautiful together. I think it is so great that you kept with the soft , romantic theme. I know it is not your usual look but you did manage to keep your spunk. I think that is the tricky part, not to look like it is a costume you would never wear. It looks like you are completely comfortable dressed like this. You are an inspiration!!!

Amazing, Maya!

This is a look I'd wear in my 30s, maybe not everyday ... but definitely on a date with DH or kid's ballet or recital. Thanks for putting it together and inspiring the rest of us.

You nailed it, Maya! And I didn't think it looked so dressy as to be out of place during the day, or in a non-romantic restaurant. I'm sure Angie's right that that difference is partly one of age...

Maya,
you look gorgeous! well done!

Hehe Kristen, you give me too much credit. My hair isn't up (too short), it's just wet :p

Thanks for all your kind words everyone. I do find the outfit on the formal side...not cocktail attire or anything, but I definitely wouldn't wear black lace (with beading, though I guess it's hard to see) during the day! Lace, pearls, and heels is quite a splash. But, I can see it dressed down a touch without the jacket and with my Swanns. I don't think I would sport the pearls either, but that's mostly because I like to wear them in a more unexpected way. Getting older freaks me out because I don't think I'm going to be able to dress a whole lot smarter than I do now. My feet demand casual footwear. I try to just not think about it for now! This outfit would have to be fancy anyway, because there is no way I could spend a day walking in either of those shoes.

Shiny, you're on! Jean should come too, so she can see "her" outfit in person

I just read Angie's ideas for everyday wear and am kicking myself for not getting a white denim pencil skirt at Goodwill recently. It would have made a perfect everyday item. :-/

Maya, I think you look fantastic! I could see it working with the Swanns, too. I also like how it *is* romantic and dressed up, but it still looks very "you." Awesome!

Maya! You look stunning! I know you had your doubts, but you really rose to the occasion. Even though this is not how you dress on a daily basis, it still looks very 'natural' and you. I loved the grey mary-janes when I saw them in your interview thread, and I'm loving them even more now. They are fab, and you wear this style of shoe SO well!

Absolutely Jean has to come too!

My first thought was the Liberty Hotel, at around 4 or 5pm ... this is when the proper Bostonian ladies-that-lunch set goes there for a cocktail before dinner (or at least it was when it first opened; if it's not anymore, I'm sure we'll think of something!!!). Jean would fit right in with that hat! But I have no idea what I would wear... I'd figure out something... it would be fun!

Maybe we can all wear our challenge outfits! Yours is yet to come though. But count on it because next time I come I am not taking no for an answer. You see your daughters every day but you'll only get to see me this once :p

Hubba, hubba!!!

*wolf whistle*

Aw, I was hoping for Fred Sanford again Lesley. Care to indulge me?

Wow Maya I've just seen this thread now. You do look uber-stylish!!!! Hope you get to sport this look out to a fancy occasion!!!

Thanks Tam. I was trying to think of some occasion where I could wear this, but I am not the kind of person who has lots of events like that in her life, hehe. Maybe it will just have to wait until I get to Boston and have a date with Shiny and her DH.

I love this outfit on you, Maya. Hopefully you will have a chance to wear it sooner, rather than later.
