Yikes! This Vince sweater looks awful on me! Is it a size issue, or is this just wrong?

I'm wearing this Vince open shoulder sweater with the Frame split hem jeans from the sale and some SW pointy toe flats from my closet. (Plus my newish red glasses). The sleeves are too long, a rarity. The open shoulder is barely open. I have to scrunch it to get it open but then it just closes up again and it ends up looking like a wide scoop with a tiny open triangle. I purchased it because I liked the idea of showing off the pretty straps from my black Marie Jo bra, which you can see in the picture only because I uncovered it on purpose. Why not? This looks frumpy as anything on me right? I see nothing complementary about this at all. I think it even makes the jeans look bad.

For comparison I included a picture of the jeans with a Chelsea 28 top that looks much better. Wrong glasses for the top -should have switched to my green specs, but time is short.

So, why is this so awful? Size up or just the wrong style top for my frame?

I am not sure . . . I am wondering if you need to size up to get a more fluid flow.

Honestly, though, I am wondering if it was just made for a different person.

Hmm, I think you're being hard on yourself. It looks fine to me but if the shoulder keeps coming up, that's probably a deal-breaker.

LOVE the split-hem jeans on you, and they do look fantastic with the blue blouse.

Aquamarine. maybe I am being hard on myself, because I am comparing myself to the look in the Nordstrom photo. I expected a more open shoulder. If I am purchasing another cashmere sweater, it needs to have something very unique or it is not worth adding to my closet since I have such a large collection of knitted items. My sense is the open shoulder should look more open. To me this looks like my knitting when it's unfinished, and I have it sitting on a piece of yarn waiting to pick it up again on a smaller size of round needles to finish the collar. (If you knit, I think you may know what I mean by this.).

I agree about the jeans, I ripped the tags and am wearing them today. It's cool outside, plus it's air conditioned in the room I work in today.

The whole fit issue is one of the reasons I don't like all the embellished looks that at around now. So many of them that I've tried on just do not sit right, and it seems that is happening to you in this top. It's not worth all the fidgeting and adjusting. Clothes should work for you, not drive you crazy The Chelsea top is so much better as you say

I think you need square broad shoulders for the Vince sweater.I think you might actually do better with a completely off the shoulder sweater. A bandeau style that goes straight across. This would showcase your pretty bra straps better too.

On the model, the sweater seems to hang more loosely at the bottom, so it looks longer. Sizing up might help. But, I agree with you about the knitting reference. For me, once I have those images in mind, it's hard to shake them loose. The blue top looks fabulous- definitely a keeper.

First off, I love the red glasses on you! So much fun!

Re the top -- I love the charcoal on you. Re the cut -- I'm not sure. It could be you need a size larger on the bottom, but it could also be that you don't have the shoulder-bust real estate to hold it in place, so to speak. Hard to say. The detail would drive me batty if it did not stay put, so I am all for finding something better, and luckily those jeans and the other top look gorgeous!

FWIW, Vince pullover looks GREAT to my eye. Sleeves don't look too long. LOVE and Killer Fab. Fun with the pretty bra strap showing. (I adore pretty undies). Prefer it to the Chelsea top.

What does the sweater do when you move? If the gap just opens up once in a while during normal movements, I think that's much flirtier than just always-there. In my mind, cashmere is an investment. Will you wear this one as much as one that had been knitted all the way to the end?

I can't comment on how the split sleeves look, cause all I see is that they would get in the way.

I prefer the Vince top on you. The Chelsea overpowers. I see the top, not you.

I purchased the Wit and Wisdom split. hem jeans and they are so amazing. Loving this trend. I have seen them on multiple body types and they are magical in that they look good on absolutely everyone. They are so comfortable too, like wearing pajamas. I think you look great in both tops.

I'm with Angie- are you crazy? This looks great! I much prefer it to the Chelsea top. I know what you mean about the unfinished knitting on the needles look, but this isn't it. I think it's different, interesting, new and worth keeping. Jeans are cool too - what footwear will you be wearing with them?

I'm in the camp of liking the sweater better than the blue top! I do prefer the longer length like on the model.

Maybe the problem with the top is the photo? You cannot really see how it fits because you are taking the picture, a volunteer photographer might be helpful.
All the items look great on you. Either you look good in everything or you know how to dress or both because I have not seen you wearing anything that is not flattering on you.

Ha, now that you mention it I can totally see the "knitting still on the needles" look. That said, I actually think it looks good on you with the opening visible, but it would be annoying if it wouldn't stay that way.

I think the model must have it pinned or taped somewhere because I can't see how that sweater would ever hang like that with so little gathering at the top. I suppose YOU could try to pin it too. Maybe try pushing all the extra fabric to the back and pinning it back there? That might also keep the shoulder open. It may look odd from the back though!

So anyway, yes it looks different than the model but I don't think it looks bad.

The jeans are awesome on you and I really like the chelsea top as well.

I'm also liking the sweater better than the blue top. I agree it doesn't look the same as in the picture, but, then, when do clothes look like their catalog images? On you, the Vince looks like an interesting variation of a classic sweater. I'm not so enamoured with the blue top because it draws my eye away from your face.

The jeans are a slam-dunk, though!

The Vince sweater doesn't look frumpy at all. But it's also clearly not giving you the look you were after. Sizing up could help get the overall looser look seen on the model, but as for the shoulder, who knows? Could be it was just made for a different shape than yours. The jeans and those shoes look great, though.

I like both tops, but the sweater looks way more you. It's unusual yet simple, and I like the way it fits. If the opening on the shoulder is going to bug you too much, then it might not be worth it, but I think it looks super. I also love the jeans and the flats! And your red specs, too!

Thanks Angie and my dear YLF friends. You have set me straight on a day when I must be wearing distortion goggles! (Or perhaps something else .........??*****). Looking again this afternoon, I see how the sweater isn't too bad. I admit I will never unsee the comparison to my knitting.

Now I need to decide if it should join the Frame jeans in my closet.

Lisa P. I wore the jeans today with ankle wrap Sandals. They seem to work with any shoe I have tried except a high vamp flat. I prefer a low vamp, so my ballet flats look better than my sneakers. Block heel pumps work. Booties also work.

I am not planning to keep the Chelsea 28 blouse. The material is going to snag too easily with the kind of function I need a top to play. It's impractical.

The open shoulder, fun jeans and pointy shoes all look so cool together. Do you feel comfortable in it? From the picture it's thumbs up If you're going to be bothered by it all day though it's not worth it.

Fathenry, the sweater is nice and soft. It's very comfortable to wear. I don't think it will bother me to wear it, but I will give it a test around the house to see how it goes.

I ordered the medium Vince Sweater for comparison, which is now stretching my budget a bit thin. I also have two non-sale dresses on order because I have a fall wedding. My 83 year old FIL is getting remarried. (MIL died of pancreatic cancer two about years ago). I thought the occasion warranted a new dress even though I have special occasion dresses that could work. I have never been to the wedding of a spry 83 year old. If neither of the dresses work, I will use one in my closet.

Awful is too strong a word, but I don't like it - because the neckline is too low.
Don't like the second top better - because of the colour, though it's always hard to judge in pics.
Love the jeans on you (they would be summer only jeans for me).
