I never had hot flashes or night sweats, but boy did I ever have a complete thermostat reset. I went from loving hot weather—anything under 60 degrees F and I was frozen—and disliking cold weather, to the exact opposite. It’s one reason we vacation in winter and go to cold places!

Hoodies became my friend as did light wool sweaters layered over a cami or long sleeved silk tee for winter. I am now a huge fan of light layers. I cannot stand to be trapped in garment I can’t take off. Apparently the only part if me that still runs cold is my neck. which is why I still wear lightweight merino turtlenecks.

OMG Helena, I think the forum has explained why I am not getting much wear from a new merino turtleneck. It is the perfect colour and I used to enjoy wearing turtlenecks. However last winter it just felt a bit much having the layers of warmth on my neck. Looks like I will be sticking to crew and v necks in the future.

This thread is therapy as well as solution ... Thank you so much everyone for your suggestions and commiserations! Xoxox

Such an interesting read. I had about two weeks of warm flashes, so more like Jaime's experience. Women's hormonal experiences are so varied, aren't they?

Helena, six or so years ago when I was going through the worst of my hot flashes while also sharing space with a co-worker who, though delightful in every other way, ran very very cold (and thus wanted our workspace MUCH warmer than I did), I asked on here what was the lightest possible layer I could wear under my clothes and still decently strip down to for a few minutes until the flash passed. Someone suggested the Uniqlo AIRism t-shirts and that suggestion served me well.

I agree with everyone that it's fascinating how much this all differs from person to person. One of my close friends never had any perimenopausal or menopausal symptoms, not a hot flash, not a night sweat, not a mood swing, nothing. But she never had any significant PMS either, so I'm not sure if there's any correlation?

That's one of the pluses of wearing a cowlneck or a turtle/poloneck with a looser French style collar.
