I think skirt #1 is really cute on you! Maybe keep for a weekend look?

I really like the mini on you but I feel like there is too much leg. I wouldn't wear it with heels. I think it would work better with boots.

If you don't want that short plaid skirt, can I have it?

Just kidding! It looks great on you. You have great legs, so why not show them? This is my feeling: skirts are for showing legs. Usually not the whole leg, especially not for work!...but either the middle part (including knee) or the bottom part (including ankle). With those short boots, I do feel a shorter skirt is better, because the boots cover your ankle. That second, longer skirt is fabulous too, but I would pair it with either tall, fitted (not slouchy) boots with a heel (so the hem covers the top of the boot, a la 1970s), or else a low-vamped shoe. That way the shape of your dainty lower calf and ankle will be visible.

That's my two cents -- take it or leave it!

I think they both look pretty cool....but I do see what you mean about the expanse of leg in #1. This skirt looks like a mini to me, vs. a just-above-the-knee pencil--I would maybe try taller, slightly lower-heeled boots with it, to give it some edge/RATEness?

I dig the short skirt, Una.

You have great legs. You can do either!

You've got great legs for short skirts! or for any skirts for that matter!

I'm thinking that particular skirt is extra short IYKWIM. It would work for casual, but that length wouldn't read professional to me -- unless everyone else around you is wearing equally short skirts cuz then that would be the 'norm'.

The second skirt seems extra long. You pull off the length fine.

You didn't post any lengths that are just 1-2 inches above the knee. Is that length not involved in this question?

Thanks for the feedback - it's fascinating! Neither of these looks are fab to me, and the second skirt was just a "have to get out the door NOW!" option.

The shorter top for a midi always confounds me, but as I'm losing weight i'm finding I have a waist and that may help me find better tops.

MNsara, knee length is not part of the question here - I know they work for me( phew, one thing less to drive me crazy).

The first skirt is a pleated j. crew skirt I've had for a while and suddenly fits again. It's just a LOT of leg, and I am short! It is definitely too short for work, but I agree that sassing it up for casual weekend looks is a good idea.

Different boots might help too. I wish I had time to take a series of pictures to compare. In any case, today I'm wearing a knee length skirt with a tucked-in buttondown top and can't wait to see how that goes over!

I think they are both great. The longer skirt looks more sophisticated, but that is the nature of the length, isn't it?

I think that short plaid skirt looks totally cute, and it doesn't even look that short with the dark tights and matching shoes. It may not be what you're used to now, but I really like it!

One of my recent thrifted skirts was just above the knee, pleated and plaid. Paired with ballet flats, it read too *schoolgirl to me*. Opaque tights, while more modest, can be even more *schoolgirl*. The combination of all of those things just wasn't working for me. Ann Hathaway sported a similar look with her plaid skirt and Docs in the Princess Diaries. Ask me how I know this.
