This seems like a trendy look… Both pieces together. The kind of outfit that makes you stand out in college, art, school, design school… Etc. For the creative, for sure.

I love that look, and would wear it. Having somewhere to go would help – – a holiday party, for instance. Also a poetry reading – – anything like that.

I think you should keep both - you can wear them as separates or together. I don’t think your combination is nearly as maximal as the second photo. Try it! It’s a shame your husband said that - sometime a remark like that can poison your mind against a particular look. But family members have no filter. Just tell him you are being fashion forward and his eye hasn’t adjusted yet.

Janet, thank you. My husband just saw a plaid suit and immediately thought of Nicholas Lowry. We talk about him when we see him on the show. This yellow suit is about the loudest, but even plaids that I might wear as a coat seem even louder as a three piece suit. I looked for a picture of him in Blackwatch but couldn’t find anything.

Karie, thank you. I like your preppy idea - maybe with sneakers?

Judy, I’m glad you and your sisters are fine now. My husband does have a good sense of humor.

VioletMyra, thank you. I’m going to keep the pants, and whether I wear them with the jacket or not, the lovely Fabbers here have given me a few ideas for wearing them.

Carol, well, I was an accountant. Hmmm…

Brooklyn, thank you. I think my husband was kind of joking, but the reference to Nicholas Lowry did give me pause - his style is pretty extreme.

I'd wear your suit-- and maybe the yellow one (w/o the vest)

If the quesiton is, would *I* wear a plaid suit, the answer is an obvious YES because I did wear a black watch plaid suit for years until it bit the dust and I mourn it daily! I loved that suit!!!!! And I wore both pieces separately to death. It was an absolute workhorse for me and if I ever find something similar I am snapping it up.

I like the suit a lot! I even like the yellow one! I personally need a shorter jacket to make it work. But that is a cut question, not a pattern question.

Murph and Suz, the yellow suit is LOUD! Thanks, both of you for your vote of confidence. Suz, I should have remembered your suit. It looks great with the striped top and sneakers.

I’m very late to this thread, but coming in to say that I’m fascinated by tartan and Blackwatch is my favorite. My family tartan is Hay, which is quite busy—think Christmas wrapping. Blackwatch is elegant and chic, I’d wear the suit in a heartbeat. I almost bought myself a Blackwatch shawl this year, but I’m done Christmas shopping for myself!

Yes! I’d buy a plaid suit to wear as a suit and to act as the catalyst for a great mix and match capsule. I love Suz’s styling of hers with a striped shirt! Agree 100% you should style yours with a dog sweater!

Avicennia, thank you for your input. I wish you had shown your tartan. Supposedly we have one, but it’s from so long ago that I would be a poser if I were to claim it. When our son played in a pipe band at festivals, we’d walk around looking at the booths, I saw the tartan, but I’ve already forgotten it.

Carla, yes, that’s how I plan to wear it - together, apart, with a dog sweater, just for fun. I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had a chance to take any pictures or hem the pants or anything.

I love it! It has all kinds of styling potential! It could skew conservative or whimsical. I hope to fit into mine again someday--although mine is metallic brown plaid (old BR.)

Husbands lol! SO helpful *eye roll*
I would personally be one to break the pieces up but that is because I am boring. You definitely would NOT look like the yellow suit guy. If anything I think it has Kate Middleton vibes! The tartan plaid is so classic.

Kelly, thank you. I hope to wear the pieces in a fun way, whether together or separately.

Helena, thank you. Interestingly, I had saved a photo of Meghan Markle wearing a gorgeous Blackwatch coat. I ended up getting one, too, but mine is more of a swing coat, whereas hers was belted, I think. BTW, I don’t think your outfits are boring. They are quiet, as opposed to loud, like the yellow suit.

JAileen, I’m with you. As a multi-generation US American it feels awfully removed. But my grandfather had a few tartan pieces from his grandfather and I’m tempted to wear a tie (women wearing ties is another story). Just so you know you’ve inspired me—I ordered a Blackwatch shawl!

Avicennia, I’d still like to see your tartan. I’m glad you’re getting the shawl. For me, Blackwatch reminds me of when my son was in high school and played in the pipe band. Plus it’s a classic.

I have and I would again!
I loved my blackwatch suit back in the day - a long jacket that cinched at the waist and a pencil skirt. I wore the heck out of that.
I would wear one again - for sure.

Team Tartan forever and ever! I am descended from Scottish royalty and I wear tartan with great pride.

I would absolutely wear a tartain/plaid suit. It has to be the right tartan and colors, but I would wear it. 1000%. I used to own a very 1980s frilly collared button-up shirt in red tartan. I adored it. (Think Diane of Cheers) The tartan item has to have a lot of frill, tailoring, etc for me to really wear it and love it. That said, even a lining in a tartan purse lining or coat lining would make me happy.

BrieN, I’m surprised to learn several here already had a Blackwatch suit! It would have been fun to have a thread of everyone wearing them.

Ket, oh my goodness, you absolutely must post a picture of your tartan!
