WIW: showing skin

Spring is officially here although there is a nip in the air in the morning and my kids went back to school for the last term of the school year in summer uniform. I looked at my daughter in her short white socks and short dress and my son in his shorts and thought of they could bare their legs, so could I!

I actually posted about thinking about thinking about buying this skirt a few weeks ago. I decided to buy it after all, and decided on the black instead of the grey I was originally considering.

What do you think?

I don't love the skirt, but if you love, that's what matters. I would prefer with this top, something more fitted. Love the top!! Great color on you!

I actually like both pieces individually and I can see them fitting to your style, but I'm not keen on them worn together. I miss structure in some form in this outfit. The bare legs actually are the best option with the combination, as to my eye anything dark would look very heavy.

I have been doing volume on volume lately, so I appreciate this look. I really like that skirt, it looks very comfy and yet fashion forward to me.

But mostly, I love love love your new hairstyle. So modern and fresh!

Yes I remember the skirt:). I like it for your style Hil. I would suggest rather than the volume on volume per se, why. It try a semi tuck here? I think it might create a nice line:)

I love the top and skirt, but I too crave a little structure in your outfit. Perhaps, as Deb suggested, a semi tuck. Love the colour of the top BTW.

I actually like it as is! I guess I am the outlier. Or maybe I'm living vicariously. I love unstructured looks like this but do not wear them well myself. So I am enjoying it on you! The sweater is a gorgeous colour for you.

Thanks for the input! I realise that the volume on volume thing is always tricky to pull off and almost always controversial but I really liked what I wore today. I loved the flowy feeling and and the lack of constriction. I don't think that the skirt will work with the semi tuck as it sits rather unattractively over my belly area and I wouldn't be comfortable with that. I will continue to play with different silhouettes though as I love the way the skirt feels and hangs.

FWIW, I like it too. In fact. I love this on you, Hil. Tonal, Interesting, Arty and Fun. You added beautiful structure to the outfit by exposing bare skin on top and on your legs. Cover those areas up, and the outfit would not look as smashing.

You wear dark blues extremely well. Better than black and grey. Please wear more blue, especially now that your hair has an orange tint. Orange and blue are complementary. xo
