WIW: Denim on Denim

Angie's blog post today inspired me to use her formula: denim jeans and shirt, statement necklace (pile of turquoise), patterned belt (snake), and dressy shoes (well , not so dressy but it's raining). I wore this most of the day including a meeting but DH suggested I change before picking up DS2 from the airport. Do you think this is too casual for the airport and maybe stopping for a bite to eat? DS is coming from Boulder. He will probably be wearing gear. Guess I'd better go change:)

I think this is fine for the airport but IKWYCF because myDH has a thing about dressing up for the airport too.

Thank you, Lantana. This is one of those outfits that I wonder if it is age appropriate. I forgot to add outfit details but wanted to say that this is a BR shirt from last year. The jeans are also BR. Belt is Calvin Klein from Macy's.

In my town you would be "best dressed" at the airport. I wouldn't go to a white tablecloth restaurant in this outfit but almost any casual dining and you will look perfect.

This outfit reads cool at any age to me. I mean, your denim is dark and fits well but is not sprayed on or excessively distressed in a way that says mom was in the "junior dept" and not in a good way.

Thank you, Elle and Mia, yes, our airport is far from dressy and the dinner stop will probably be for Kansas City barbecue.

You look absolutely age appropriate. Stylish, but not over the top. And that necklace is absolutely stunning with the denim shirt. Wear with pride. Even if your son or husband raises an eyebrow, they are probably secretly thrilled that you look so good.

Oh, I do love your take on Denim x 2. I can see where feeling rebellious may come from, I think I can probably sit with your team - I too felt a mixture of fun and joyful confidence, especially after today's post I think there is a fine line between looking downright sloppy with too much denim, and pulling it off as an intentional outfit, with all the attention to detail(s).

And you look amazing, from necklace to the right width of belt (I myself had to settle with what I had) to the footwear. I think this is not just airport appropriate but suitable for any dining place that does not insist on strictly formal ear.

I was at the airport Tuesday night to pick up DD and I didn't see anyone as stylish as you. I hope you kept it on because you look great. Definitely age appropriate. Love the pile of turquoise peeking out from your collar!

Beautiful denim-on-denim interpretation, Joy. You look terrific in it. I love your accessories. I would think it's a nicely polished look for the airport and dinner. I'm thinking that your husband may look at denim differently than many of us on this forum. Remember when we weren't allowed to wear jeans to school? I do!

Nancylee and Nicole, I ended up switching the blue denim jeans for black jeans and animal loafers for silver metallic flats. Still D on D but a tad dressier. The posted outfit would definitely have worked. I was too rushed to get a photo but it didn't look very different from what you see.

Donna, we did end up having KC barbecue...babyback ribs, creamy coleslaw, baked beans, onion rings and the guys had beer. DH had his ID checked which made his day.
Debora, I changed the jeans but kept the turquoise pile.
Karie, a snake belt seems to go with so much, I have a bit lighter version by MK that is a bit too short for these jeans.

Firecracker, you are so right! I'm old enough to remember when we couldn't wear any kind of pants, let alone jeans. And that included college!
Sveta, it is curious that this BR shirt is soft. It may be older. I happened onto it soon after Angie posted about buying one, but this one was on a sale rack marked down significantly.

I'm trying to understand DH's reaction, does he think of blue denim being too casual in general or is it the double denim? It is more casual than your usual WIWs perhaps that was the trigger for his response.

Rute, Angie is right about the accessories making a difference. Heels would have been even better.
Jules and Ingunn, I was surprised too. It was probably the double blue denim. He often sees me in dark jeans and dressy (non-athletic) shoes, just not top and bottom at once.
