You all have given me so much food for thought! Now I need to work on:

- how to wear this striped silk shirt, if it's too boxy for the skirt;
- what shoes will work with the skirt
- whether grey tights will solve my issues
- color combos with mustard

And the education continues...

Dashrashi, I am a size 5.5 wide which translates to a 6 in most shoes. So I went TTS or up, techically. I got a 6 in these and they fit nicely although my feet are like duck feet and my toes are a wee bit cramped in regular socks. Otherwise, comfy for as high of a heel as they have, because of the wedge.

Love this with the black jacket and Whoa, are those pictures BIG or what?! I think that new photo upgrade works really well. I'm scared to post pics for fear you will see my pores. You look amazing in color, Una!

Wow, those boots are great! I really like Diana's color suggestions. It's hard to come up with new outfits when you don't have all of the pieces to try... You have great ones, though! I think the color of the skirt looks great on you. You can really handle those bold colors.

I love the skirt! And I think black tights work with the black shoes. I would love to see the outfit with a more fitted top. Have you thought about belting over the cardigan, either a black skinny belt or a thick stretchy belt?

Please take my words with a grain of salt. both outfits look great but so much better with the jacket because it alters the proportions. In the first pic the skirt and the blouse are of equal height (1:1 proportion). As the legs are high contrast and not reapeated as black up top, this look a bit off. In the second pic, the jacket is to the skirt more 1.5:1 and that makes it a lot more flattering. Also book-ending. I am a novice to proportion play so take me with a grain of salt

I am a fan of the mini ( most of my skirts are just above the knee-caps) and i have some even shorter. I only own one midi ( 1 inch below knee) and I feel obliged to wear low vamp heels with it. BUT, in this case I think you could either untuck to create a longer proportion to the skirt, or maybe just maybe a couple inches longer in the skirt would have made the styling easier. It took a lot for me to admit that:)
Good luck with other combos, but know that #2 is truly fab
As for other color combos, yellow mixes splendidly with raspberry , purple, magenta , blue , turquoise. Maybe try a cobalt blue tight with a turquoise top?

I'm late here, but felt the urge to chime in :). This is a very tricky skirt to wear in colder climates, IMHO, because of the complexity of pairing tights with it. I remember when everyone was buying it and I was thinking I would be interested to see what color tights people pick. I think Kari has this, and also Sveta--maybe look at their pics to get some ideas? ETA: I think there is actually a thread devoted to people's pics of themselves wearing this skirt! That could be helpful and fun... It's easier to pair brightly-colored skirts with bare legs, compared to the analytical puzzle that is bright skirt + tights + shoes + shirt + flattering colors + hair + bookending + accessorizing :).

To me, solid black tights with this is too bumble bee/stark. I go with charcoal gray with colors like this (though to me, this color looks more like a bright lemon yellow than a mustard? so, more springy than wintery? but maybe it's just my monitor...), then you could wear black booties, as long as you incorporate some gray into your top half, like that fab gray sweater you are returning :(. I think your hair is black enough that it bookends your shoes.

Re. the top being boxy: I think people are seeing that the top and skirt look like they are roughly the same size, like two boxes stacked on top of each other. Pairing the skirt with a slightly longer or more fitted top would change that up, or pairing that blouse with a longer pencil skirt would do the trick too (e.g., at or slightly below the knee). I would think that that blouse would look great untucked or tucked with all sorts of pants too.

But it's this skirt that is complex, coupled with your wintery weather--it's not you being anything less than skillful!

wow. this one has me stumped. despite the 1/3, 1/3 thing that others refer to I like the first look for some reason. I have the same problem with wearing black hoisery
( necessary for winter) and bright skirts/dresses. How to tie the whole outfit together? I am wondering about the striped shirt untucked with a black belt at some level perhaps lower slung. also I think the red stripes in the shirt bring out more f the red in your hair?
Hmmmm.

I'm no help, but think the boots are totally awesome (and yes they are now in my amazon cart just in case...)

I'm with Jonesy on the tights. I returned this color skirt because I couldn't work it in my mind what color to wear. I think there are a lot of good suggestions here though.

This is the yellow raisin Halogen, right? I haven't read thru all comments either, so sorry if you've already dismissed these ideas. . .

Warning: I have a yellow/black aversion!

I have this skirt and have worn it with a teal top (a la Kari and Sveta), then nude hosiery and cognac boots. But my skirt was longer and only the kneecap showed.

Have you tried a sheerer patterned black tight> Do you need the warmth of heavier coverage tights?

What about a charcoal, heathered grey then? It wouldn't work with that striped top, but you could still probably wear the quilted booties (which are TOTALLY FAB, by the way!) (and thank you for the pics, I can rest now!) and black jacket.

Don't you have some great tall grey boots? Those would work with grey tights.

You could also switch to your Gap navy shrunken blazer. What does that look like over the yellow skirt and striped blouse? I picture that combo as really needing the skin toned legs though.

Thanks for the additional input!

This is NOT the Halogen skirt - it's a cheapo skirt from F21. It's actually a bit a-line and has big patch pockets on the front, for what I thought was a mod look. But it does have the same color issues as the infamous "raisin" skirt! I am relieved that it's complex even for the complex outfit ladies here...

Will have to ruminate and try again. Needing real leg coverage is proving to be quite a challenge. I shudder to think what I looked like in past winters before YLF.

Oh! I did not realize this was the F21 skirt! Yeesh, I need to get to a F21 to try on pants as well as look for that yellow beauty.

I think that if I had a skirt like that, I'd probably end up wearing it with grey cable knit patterned tights and low heeled knee-high boots of some type. I'm not really much of a heels girl but somehow shorter skirts call for lower heels to me. I'd probably then be really boring and wear a black/grey printed top, black/white button down, or a black/grey sweater, with a black or white jacket. I'd probably wear blue or aqua accents, or orange if I was feeling daring. Or perhaps a printed top that has yellow bits in it. Jeez, dull or what??

Hmm. Kinda makes me want a yellow skirt now, though!
