Wiw: can preppy be chic?

I admit to being more and more preppy, especially in summer, but I aspire also to rocket chic ala Emmanuelle alt. So I took my chances and put together this crossover outfit. I am over a 10 on happiness just trying it, but I think maybe different shoes are needed...

please help....I don't do pumps...is there anything else than the obvious pumps? Are cons an option?

I like your outfit! I don't think you have to wear pumps. The shoes you are wearing bookends the jacket and blouse. I would just add a feminine statement piece like a clutch or bold metal bracelet.

Your shoes are fine as is! Will you be wearing this this afternoon? I think Cons are a good alternative for a casual, chic out with friends-outfit.

LOVE this and think it's very cool/chic indeed. I think you might try rolling the jeans up a bit with the loafers, but I also like it as-is. You could add a worn leather or statement belt, too (but I am still obsessed with filling in belt loops when tucking, so take that for what it's worth). IMO the cons would also work nicely if you want to go more casual.

Love the shoes, but to be even more Emmanuelle alt, you can go for a cropped pants or jeans and heels!

Lovely with the jacket. As for shoes, what about a lower stacked-heel option? I keep seeing them in magazines this summer.

I'll just state the one that feels like the most straightforward shortcut to me, and suggest that you go with some studded strappy sandals that mimic the inspiration shoes in everything except heel height. A gladiator style would be cool, especially if you cuff the jeans up a bit to show them off.

I think the silver loafers you are wearing look good with your outfit but I like the suggestions of flat strappy sandals and pointy toed flats too. The outfit is versatile enough that just changing the shoes can change up the vibe.

I think you look great and agree with others to roll the pants and maybe if you want to tweak it more, try dressier sandals with it.

This outfit is the bees knees! The shoes are great, but you could easily switch them out for a different vibe. Preppy can definitely be chic. A lot of fashion icons from Preppyland.

You look great and I like FF's idea about the sandals too. The jacket sleeves fit looks fine, though it's not that easy to see from the pic. You may need room if you layer too, don't forget.

thanks, for those who check back..I did try rolling the jeans but I didn't feel fab in that look. I see EA uses cropped jeans to get her chic look. Probably not my thing either so I will stick with the long version....but studded gladiators next time! and a cuff, a belt and a slender gold necklace (if I have one by then!)

Love this, Jayne! It looks great as is. I would fill in the belt loops with a belt, but otherwise, it's perfection as is. I like your idea of playing around with footwear to see what you like best.

YES! Preppy can be chic -- absolutely. It combined with retro elements is the basis of my style aesthetic. I adore mixing intense colors in one outfit -- I am working on the contrasting pattern mixing (plaid and stripes anyone?). Prep on!

I actually like the shoes with this outfit -- the silver echo's the clean/crisp white jacket and tee. I love how white makes blue look bluer even if the blue is faded. I think you can do cons just fine with this outfit and still convey chic. You can do all white which would keep the same feel of the outfit you have pictured here or you can add colored ones if you are't afraid of color. This would be the perfect place for red, yellow, green or some other happy color of yours.
