I'm trying a modified capsule wardrobe approach this year, with four seasonal capsules.  Each quarter, I'll do a quick wardrobe audit, define key pieces and any wants/needs for the season, and then arrange my closet to feature my choices. I'm not limiting myself to wearing just these pieces (if I really need my black heels or my cowboy boots, I can grab them), but this will be the core of my wardrobe for the quarter, and what I'll reach for most days.

My winter season is January-March. Temps range from highs in the 50s-70s Fahrenheit, with lows in the 40s-50s, although we did just have a few outlier days in the upper 80s last week, and this year has been unseasonably warm and dry.

Here are my key capsule pieces (all in Finds, too):

Bottoms:
black ponte pants
dark wash skinny jeans

Tops:
black silk blouse
floral silk blouse
Breton tee
floral thermal tee
black silk tank
black silk cami
cream silk cami
black wool pullover

Dresses:
spaghetti strap black bias-cut midi
long-sleeve floral viscose midi
long-sleeve black linen midi

Toppers:
black cashmere duster (can also be worn as a dress)
embroidered duster

Jackets:
black puffer
burgundy faux leather biker

Shoes:
All-Birds wool runners
Bed Stu lace-up ankle boots
Dolce Vita suede booties

Accessories:
lightweight burgundy cashmere scarf
black silk obi belt

Wants/Needs: I haven't purchased any new additions yet, but my skinny jeans need replacing, so that will be first up. This is also probably the last hurrah for both jackets. The puffer is leaking and the faux leather jacket is cracking and flaking. I'd still like to add some olive utility pants, if I find the right pair. My nascent style mood board for 2021 also has me wanting a chunky cropped cardigan and maybe a cream or natural-white blouse.

My wardrobe audit cleared out my holding zone, which is now down to three items. I passed on nine pieces

Photo 1 - Closet before.

Photo 2 - I took EVERYTHING out and stacked it on the bed to sort, including the holding zone and drawers. The only things I didn't pull out were the half a dozen summer items I have stored on upper shelves, scarves, gear, basics, and sleepwear.)

Photo 3 - Got rid of approximately one cat-sized bag worth of clothes.

Photo 4 - Winter capsule.

Photo 5 - Everything else, tucked away on a lower bar, but still accessible.
