I find the photos really helpful. I figure the photo does a better job of revealing line and proportion than the mirror does, especially at full length.

My brain is a trickster when it comes to looking in the mirror - I see what I want to see. Looking at a photo gives me time to notice things like poorly placed hemlines and bad proportions.

The What I Wore posts are one of my favorite features of the forum, too. I find a lot of inspiration from visual examples, and I also find suggestions or feedback on my own attempts very helpful and encouraging.

Lately I simply haven't spent much time online, and also haven't devoted time to taking photos before I head out the door like I used to. However, I do have a small group of WIW photos, and you've motivated me to finally post a few. Maybe it will start to be more of a routine again.

I already post WIW photos on my blog almost every day. I don't have time to re-post here...

When I finally found a place where I could set my camera to get full-length pictures with the self-timer, and just kept my camera there, that's when I started taking more pictures. I used to post them to my blog before I joined YLF, but that was a bit too much exposure for me. It did get me better about getting up and getting dressed during a time when I was fairly depressed and didn't really have a reason to get out of my pjs (work @ home).

As far as reasons why I don't post, when I don't: a) I look sloppy or bad and I know it, b) I'm budget-challenged and I couldn't afford to take anyone's advice, c) I'm feeling too self-conscious that day.

For me, it's time mainly. When I have time, it's the weekend when I'm in lounge wear around the house.

Also, not having my camera and tripod set up and easily accessible makes WiW posts more work.

I just read through all of these. Cookie, that is horrifying. Good grief. Psychologists are trained to be super careful about what gets revealed to clients, and I'm naturally rather private (why I can't warm up to Facebook) so I don't use my given name or include my face in photos or talk about my Forum participation with anyone who isn't extremely close to me. No guarantee of safety, but makes me feel better.

But to your original question, Kim... For me it's mainly the issue of getting a decent photo before I'm all rumpled from the workday. It's amazing how much you can see in a photo that isn't always obvious in the mirror so I do find taking photos helpful, even if I end up not posting them because they showed the things that weren't obvious in the mirror.

P.S. Taylor -- I have said this before: there is NOTHING that would keep me from clicking on one of your photo posts! I am so inspired by your style.

I'm new to posting on the forums, so I'm shy about what y'all might think of my outfits. Plus I have a locally semi-high-profile job and The Powers That Be keep reminding us about security, so there's that. And I'm horrible at self-portraits and don't really have a willing photographer.

But notwithstanding all of the above, I'm thinking of having a go at it anyway, maybe sans head or sans face. I'm losing a bunch of weight and don't really know how I look these days, if that makes any sense, and it would be nice to get some feedback about what's working and what's not in my wardrobe.

Kim, this has been such a fantastic conversation! I'm reassured to hear that I'm not alone in my insecurities re posting, and as you say, AJ, headless is probably a good way to go.

Taylor and Tanya, please don't EVER stop posting - I love your WIWs!

So sad to hear that some people think that "YLFers wouldn't approve"...we are all so different on this forum and most posts show a nice diversity of opinion....as Angie has reminded us, it's about having fun with fashion.

I enjoy posts from people like Audi whose style is diametricly opposite to my own - they're fun!

Fascinating responses here!

I'd love to be doing more WIW, but my camera is a big old DSLR so it's a pain in the arse to get the pics off it. Pure laziness, really! I'm hoping to upgrade my phone to a smartphone that will take half-decent pics and let me just email them to a photo hosting site.

So I tend to do binge WIW posts, batch processing the pics in one night. I did one in summer with 8 outfits, I was going to do another one to show my winter outfits. But I might break it up into two posts just so the WIW fans can get 2 fixes for the price of one
