I grew up with a mom who always rocked a red lip. I'm not a lover of the look for myself but I have very different colouring from my mom - she has dark hair. I also have significant lips so when I put on red I feel like it's all I see! I also have very dark eyebrows for my fair colouring and think a red lip is just too much on my face!

I like this red on you but prefer softer looks for your colouring and style.

Okay, so I think it's safe to say that we've decided that although this doesn't look bad on me, per se, it really doesn't read as 'me' for my style. Am I fine in just keeping the stain shown in the later pics? It's not that the $9 will make or break me either way, I just don't want to bother with yet one more lip color that isn't it. Ya know?

It suits me in the right warm red but it bleeds up my vertical lip wrinkles.

Haven't read the rest of the replies but ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Lol. You look awesome!! This is the perfect shade of red for you! I want to know the brand etc, because yes, I am one who feels like I can't do a bold red lip either.

By that I mean a classic red - I certainly can do a bold, rich mauve shade.

My issue is more about the color of my teeth, I find lots of bold red shades make them look way more yellow than they are. My teeth aren't anywhere as bright white and as lovely as yours, but they certainly aren't as post-it note yellow as some so-called classic shades of red make them out to be. I notice a difference between orangey red (just say no) and blue-red/mauve (yes). Mauve is my "go to" for any lipstick or gloss shade -- mauve is a wide range, and includes fuchsia, but I digress...

Even with just the right shade, I rarely do a bold red lip in the warmer months - not sure why, though possibly it has to do with the fact my hair tends to be lighter. Or my eye just adjusts to lighter, softer, less contrast shades in the summer months.

I started humming Robert Plant's "She's so Fine" the minute I clicked on your photo, FWIW.

Can anyone recommend a really good blue-red lip colour?

I can't wear anything with orange undertones and thus far every red lipstick I have tried ends up looking pink on me. I'm keen for a bright red for occasion dressing and want to avoid anything too dark or vampy.

Waving my hand in the air! I never do a bold lip! I think maybe you've hit on something with the low contrast colouring? I feel like my colouring is quite similar to yours. I feel like a clown when I wear bold lips. It might have something to do with the fact that even with liner it tends to smudge and I just look like Ronald. Yuck. Love it on others though.

BTW you look fab in that colour!!! Just sayin'...

Well, not helpful or original - but - I think it looks great on you. So agree that it comes down to personal style and comfort, and what feels like "you". Either way, you're quite gorgeous!

@amy see my earlier post: MAC "Hang up" is a good plummy, satiny wine red and MAC "Russian Red" is a knockout primary RED that looks orange in the tube but is neutral on the lips.

My colouring is medium contrast & compared to you I look weird with a red lip. Softer colours certainly feel more me

That shade looks great on you! It looks red enough to be fun for a change, but not overwhelming.

For me, I think I have the coloring and features to pull off a bright red lip, as long as it's a warmish red, but not quite the personality. So the only reds I do are sheerish tints -- nothing too heavy or glossy. I mostly like them in the middle of summer or the middle of winter, for some reason.

I have the Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm in cherry something and really like that for everyday in summer. It kind of looks like you've just eaten a cherry popsicle, so it's fairly understated. The other red I have is something from Dior that's halfway between tinted balm and lipstick (I think Fireworks is the color), which looks a little dressier.
