White moto outfit lab

I had to return a shirt for my DH to Nordstrom’s, so stopped by Ann Taylor and Banana Republic, to try a few top picks.

First up, white moto from AT. First picture is a larger size, second is smaller. I decided to bring home the smaller and try it on with

3) Boden skirt from last spring/summer
4) Black trousers
5) Black dress (this would be more for evening
6) Navy tulle skirt (I’d wear a navy top, but don’t have one at the moment.)
7) TopShop dotted dress that was a top pick last year.

Thoughts? Should I exchange for the larger size? I like the jacket quite a bit, so am leaning towards keeping it, and adding tops and footwear to expand the possibilities for wearing it.

I also tried on the top pick stretchy ribbed knit tops at BR. LOVE!! Smaller size in 8, larger in 9. I know the fit difference isn’t really visible, but I decided to go with the larger size, for a looser fit on my arms. About to order in 4 colors (black, navy, white, pink) since they’re 50% off right now.

Bonus WIW for shopping yesterday. Jeans are the DL1961 Coco Curvy straights that Angie mentioned in a thread for Janet recently.

The smaller jacket is fantastic! Definitely a keeper. The BR tee is perfect too. I wish they had those in store when I was there. Fit looks perfect!

Wow, the white jacket looks great with all of those ensembles. I like the fit of the smaller, as long as it feels good to you.

The Coco jeans look good on you! I need to wear the ones I ordered around the house to see if they bag out — they’re a little roomy on me in the waist and upper hip, but I do not want tight for a straight jean. What’s your experience like with them so far?

The smaller jacket is a WOW. But if the larger size will fit over more tops get it. Thevsmall size is fab on you too.

Love this moto on you! It looks super versatile for your wardrobe. I considered as well, but opted for the WHBM knit moto, which will be more versatile for me. As for the BR tops, I will soon have three of them myself I agree that taking the larger size is the way to go.

The Cat, rachylou, Aquamarine, Brooklyn, shevia, suntiger, RobinF, and Joy- thanks for weighing in on the size. It feels right, so am glad to know it looks good, too.

kellygirl- my closest BR only had a couple colors, and I had to hunt to find them. They surpassed my expectations, and since I retired a few navy and black spring/summer tops, I stocked up. Well worth ordering, if your local store doesn't have them.

Janet- I got my DL1961s around 3-3.5 years ago, and the fabric content is different from the current ones- 55% cotton, 45% poly. I probably tried on 15-20 pairs before I found these, in my quest for straight leg jeans with a reasonably modern cut. They've worn well- I don't have a large jeans capsule, so these have been worn about 1x/week, for 6-7 months of the year. They loosen slightly with wearing, but nothing like the Pilcro jeans I have. I've never had to wash these because they got too bagged out. Hope they work for you!

Sal- yes, definitely I'll wear it unzipped more often!

LBD- You read my mind! I'm hoping the pink top will work with the black trousers and the navy top with the navy tulle skirt.

Christina F.- the navy jacket from WHBM is super cute! I stopped by to look at that one as well, but decided it would steal wears from another navy jacket in my closet. Your review of the tops was definitely part of the deciding factor in going with the larger size!

Angie- thanks so much! The jacket is definitely a keeper with your seal of approval! I almost didn't buy the hoodie, because I was worried that I wouldn't get enough wear out of it this season. I need not have worried- it's been on almost weekly rotation since the end of December. So glad I got it! The jeans have been total workhorses for me for the last three years.

Kathie - I just ordered a white suede moto and am now second-guessing, this knit one might be more versatile for me! Would you mind sharing what the size was you went with? We look to have a similar build!

JuniperGreen- I have a small bust, relative to my shoulders, so jacket fit can be tricky. My most common sizes for tops and jackets are US4 (most mass market brands) and 6 (Theory) and occasionally a US2 (Lafayette). I grabbed the 4 and the 6, tried the 4 on first, and immediately knew the 6 would be too large. I almost walked out the door with the 4, but figured I would try the 2, since they had one. The 2 won out, because the fit through the bust was much better, and I'm only going to wear it with sleeveless or very lightweight sleeved tops. The fabric is a woven, with a subtle texture. It has some give, but not as much as a knit.

The moto is beautiful on you, glad it is a keeper. I like all the combinations you have posted and especially the one with the black and white pencil skirt - no 3.

I saw the first picture and thought it a bit big, ( not having read your post carefully). Second picture: fit perfect. I always like moto's best wearing open. Because of the diagonal lines. And love those BR tops, but not yet on EU site.

I clicked on it to order , but it’s $250 ish in Cdn $ which strikes me as a bit much for that brand . I have to look at the return policy first . I do love it tho .
