This is a really interesting topic - I enjoyed reading everyone's responses. I used to never wear perfume, then I started to wear a light body splash, but now I wear it everyday. Someone gave me Bvlgari's Omnia Crystalline as a gift and I loved it when I tried it. When I started wearing it, I got so many compliments. My boyfriend loves it, and now, I cannot wear anything else without him saying I don't smell like me. I guess it has become what you call my signature scent, but I'm pretty sure that when it runs out, I'm going to want to try something new.

I have to find that Kenzo Flower and smell it. I want to know what you are all raving about!!

Off and on for years I have used White Musk from the Body Shop. I've had a bottle of the perfume oil in my cabinet forever, and I still love the scent.

Another scent I really like is Karma by Lush. I use the bubble bars, cream, etc. and will hopefully splurge on the perfume one of these days.

I tried spraying my clothes with the 1872 yesterday, and it worked great! The perfume only lasted about 6 hours though. Is this typical, or should it last longer, you think? It's an Eau de Parfum.

Hmm. You might not think it's lasted but others will think so. I'm sure of it.

Okay, thanks Angie!

I just received the new perfume which I needed to order from US since in Europe they are not available: Gold, by Donna Karan. At the same time, my janitor organized himself a long weekend. So, through a glassy door of his office I can see my parcel and literally feel like my cat in front of the fridge: I know goody is there but how to get to it??

LOL Basia! I hope you get your treat soon!

I wear Mesmerize by Avon (http://www.nellbutler.com/MESMERIZE_W.html). My first perfume was Vanilla Fields. My first grade teacher wore it and I loved it. Then I got older and decided I wanted a sent of my own... so I stole my mom's. She stopped wearing it since I wanted it to be mine though. I've also worn Victoria's Secret Rapture when Mesmerize for women was briefly discontinued.

Oh, I forgot to say that I've tried a lot of other perfumes, but most smell odd on me.

It's so interesting to read about what scents people wear and why. I used to wear Chanel #19 but as I got older I wanted something low key. My signature scent now is China Rain from a small company in Berkeley called Body Time. I get lots of compliments on it and it is very subtle which is what I like! Someone once told me it was similar to a Jennifer Lopez perfume but I can't remember which one.

I usually wear one scent for a couple of years and then switch to something new. I prefer sweet, floral perfumes with a hint of musk. Some of my past faves include: Chanel 22, Mariella Burani, Chanel Allure, Armani White and perennial evening-out favorite, Guerlain's Samsara. Right now, my signature scent is Bulgari Notte.

I was concerned about using fragrance with a new baby at home and a salesperson suggested that I spray it on my ankles! I guess there's a pulse point there and the fragrance sort of wafts up during the day.

I don't like wearing perfume - though I really don't mind it on others - including cologne on my DH.

But like Sarah, I think most of them smell odd on me. But I also can't stand shopping for perfume because walking into the dept store with all the scents overwhelms me and gives me headaches, so I may just not have patience to find one that works.

But there is one scent I have worn that I did like on me. I would bring it out just for special occasions. I think it is Issy Myake; it was a gift. I may be misremembering/mispelling the name - I threw the bottle out awhile ago, when it started to go bad.

Over the years DH has tried to give me perfume as presents - but none of them worked on me. He's given up finally.

There's also a practical reason I don't wear perfume: if you don't wear it, you need to dry-clean your clothes a lot less.

One tip for those of you who wear perfume: your own nose gets used to the scent. Just like how you can't smell your own house odors... unless you go away on vacation then come back.

So if you think it wears off after a few hours... ask someone else... it may be that your own nose just got used to it.

Also, I would not recommend spraying on your clothing. I had a coworker - she smelled quite nice every day - but her coat was so overwhelmed with a build up of perfume... people complained when they had to go into the coat closet to retrieve their own coats. As I said... your own nose may not notice it anymore... helps to have someone else to give things a sniff and let you know when they need a dry cleaning.

I really like the suggestion of spraying on your ankles!

I am in Nicole's camp. If the perfume is strong, it gives me a terrible headache, and even if it isn't, I am not quite sure I understand the point of wearing it. I don't care much what other people smell like as long as they don't smell bad. I have had many incidents of putting up with others' not-so-desirable scents, and nothing drives me madder than the smell of stale perfume at the end of the day.

Maybe I just have a very sensitive nose. I'm not sure. Personally, my favorite smell for a person is clean laundry!

I usually wear Victor and Rolfe Flower Bomb. I am not usually a fan of that type but I love it.

I love to go to the mall and sample the fragrances although one should not sample more than two or three at a time because the nose becomes confused. I do it anyway cause there are so many to try. Years ago I loved #22 Chanel until the scent was changed. I read that #22 was Coco Chanel's favorite. It was very soft and flowery before it was changed. I love a clean scent and musk to me smells clean. So I wear musk sometimes. Another inexpensive scent I like is a blend of peony and apple - very soft and clean smelling. I have asthma so I have to be very careful with fragrances because some of them make me cough.

I switch it up a little, but I get compliments on Clinique's "Happy in Bloom" all the time, it's crazy. I like very bright, clean, slightly citrusy scents, and another favorite is Fresh's "Citron de Vigne."

I've been wearing Eau de Charlotte by Annick Goutal for ten years. The EDT is warm and soft and I love it.

My favorite everyday scent: CK Be.

Other favs: Lauren by Ralph Lauren for spring and summer. Estee Lauder's Aliage for fall and winter. Jil Sander Perfume Four - discovered this in Europe.

Hard to find favs: Avon's Zany and Avon's Sportif. LOVE THEM. Thank goodness for Ebay.

I just discovered Flowerbomb. I think that since dh and I both like the smell, and it doesn't seem to bother ds; I am going to try it.

Okay, this is funny. I've been wearing Calyx from Prescriptives for years, and I love it. Then just recently I read an article online about how it's, uh, 80s-tastic. Which makes sense because I've been wearing it since it came out in 1986. But I felt a little chagrined.

My father-in-law gave me some Chanel No. 5 a couple of years ago and I wear it from time to time, too. Especially when I'm wearing one of Angie's Chanel looks!

I haven't worn perfume in years. When I did, my favorite were Channel #5, and Armani's something that I can't remember, comes in the yellow/white striped box.

I don't usually wear perfume but when I do it's Light Blue by D & G. I like the light citrusy smell of it. Perfume generally makes me sneeze, although I've noticed that with my cold I can't smell it and my nose isn't itching. Weird! If you can't smell it, can you still react to it?

I am off and on about wearing perfume (usually forget to put it on), but when I remember it's always L'Ombre Dans L'Eau by Dyptique. Bonus: It now comes in a solid, which is so great for travel!

I have been wearing Bellodgia by Caron (1927) for several decades. It is the closest scent to my favorite grandmother's aura...she always wore the oil of night-scented stock, which is too strong for me, but since I always loved to bury my face in her clothes, Bellodgia reminds me of her. Speaking of wearing scent: since I am a musician I am always respectful of those in my choral/musical ensembles who have allergic reactions to perfume and do not use scented products on days when I am going to be rehearsing or performing. I have always enforced this practice in the musical ensembles that I conduct. Some men have very strongly odiferous deodorants!

I have been sampling a light summer scent from L'Occitane and may buy some for the summer months, though Bellodgia seems summery too, at least to my nose.

I don't do the perfume thing--I'm headache prone--BUT-----there is one scent I've come across in the bank machine section of the bank a couple times that makes me want to yell out and stop everyone to ask who's it is and where do I get it!!! A real show stopper for me! I hope it isn't floor polish! But then again-a little behind the ears....

I have been a faithful Jo Malone wearer for years (she smartly introduced the concept of fragrance combining so you end up dropping money on not one but TWO bottles of perfume), typically combining Grapefruit and Sweet Orange Blossom.
However, I just made a new fragrance purchase and I am IN LOVE. It's Hermes' Pamplemousse Rose. I had bought my BF Hermes' Terre last year and love it on him on the few occasions he wears it--earthy, tobacco-y, spicy and super clean. Pamplemousse Rose smells VERY similar but with just enough hint of rose to be feminine (yet not so much that it is cloyingly sweet or powder-y). I want to bathe in it. If you like citrus/crisp scents, I would check it out!
