Satchels and clutches are the styles I use most often. (I change my bag almost daily, depending on my outfit.) I have a few smaller shoulder bags (probably technically cross body but I don't like to wear them that way) that I use for shopping or other times I want to keep my hands free.

I like something that leaves me hands free so I opt for over the shoulder or cross body. I love satchels in pictures but I prefer a more boho style soft leather bag that is flat against my body and doesn't add a lot of visual width if that makes sense!

I prefer a purse that has both the short handles and the longer straps so I can do what i need with it depending on the situation. I also prefer medium size--most of the purses in the stores are WAY TOO big. I like to be able to put it in my desk drawer or in my car without it taking the entire seat.

I love it when purses have the wallet as an outside compartment--hate digging for wallet/money etc. I also like a few outside pockets for cellphone, kleenex--that stuff you need to grab quickly. Yes I am pretty picky about my purses--also has to be light. I had a shoulder issue for a while due to a heavy purse.

I am impressed by those that change their purse depending on their outfit--always wanted to do that but just can't take the time to do that. I pretty much stick with one purse the entire season so it has to be neutral and just the right size.

Vera Bradley bags are interesting because they are light and well-thought out as far as compartments/size etc but they are just not my style.

Crossbodies are by far my favorite style, although it's even better to have a crossbody strap and a long handle that will allow me to tuck it under my arm and over my shoulder. There are too many instances when it is really beneficial to have my hands free! I use a kangaroo keeper and a wallet and makeup pouch to keep my bag semi-organized.

I have several bags -- about 3 for winter and 3 for summer, along with one dressier clutch.

I like Una's idea of a tote with a smaller crossbody inside.

I used to love cross body bags to the exclusion of any other style but have now downsized to two black bags, a satchel and backpack. Both are working well for me.

I love handbags! - and have a wide collection of many diverse styles and go through different phases over the course of a year. Right now I am preferring a small shoulder bag - it fits with my very casual and spontaneous lifestyle!

I like to be hands free. I'm normally carrying a shoulder bag except for vacations when I have a cross-body bag.

I like the look of satchels and other very structured bags but I find them awkward to carry. Sometimes I use a cross body but I don't have one I really like. Generally I use something that will go over my shoulder -- in fact I've stopped buying anything that doesn't, and I plan to get rid of my existing bags that can only be hand held or dangled on my arm. I find it really uncomfortable.

For work, I like a satchel shape with straps long enough that I can also carry it on my shoulder. For fun, I love clutches with a chain or strap tucked inside if needed.

Satchels and clutches/wristlets are my preference but I also use cross body bags when I need both my hands. Cross body bags make life so much easier when I'm juggling two small dogs.
