Steph, Mad Men started off its story in the late 50's, no? Only now in Season 4 (I think it's season 4), have they hit 1964. At least that's how I perceive the time frame :). And quite right - the 60's covers 3 totally different styles:

1. early - Mad Men styling which I think of as pukka 50's carry over. Jackie 0. Grace Kelly.
2. middle - Mod styles a la Twiggy and the Beatles.
3. late - hippy vibe that carried on into the 70's

Pretty pears are always fabulous, Lisa! The quintessential female form - right next to hourglass.

Angie, the first season of Mad Men takes place in 1960. So the entire show has taken place in the '60s.

Lisa, I always think of the later '90s as the years of the pear, because J. Lo was so popular at that point, and everyone was loving her backside. However, when I actually think of what styles were particularly pear-friendly back then, I have trouble recalling any.

Hmmm, is there an era of the Amazon? An era in which super-tall women were in vogue :)? Maybe sometime in the future? That's my era!

Aren't super tall women always in vogue? Or maybe I'm just concluding that from the fact that being short never seems to be the in thing...

I think tall-ish, like 5'8" or so, paired with a racy rectangle body type, is an in vogue shape, but bigger than that in height and body type, not so much :). At least in my experience....(just in terms of the challenges in finding clothes that fit, etc.).

What a great post!

I have no idea what era would work best for my frame, but I do know I have favorite styles from each era that would probably work for my frame:)

Oh, silly me. From where I'm standing, 5'8 *is* super tall :p

Ha--yes, from my vantage point, everyone pretty much just looks short, shorter, and shortest :).

Wow, as I was reading through everyone's responses I can totally see each person rocking the era they named! AJ: I can see you in the 30's, in fact that was what came to mind right away.

The posts about the ruebenesque era are hilarious, but also very important; the fashions of those days required a very specific voluptous frame, one that my angular frame would have looked poor, hollow and peasanty in. I love the upper class clothing, jewelry and haristyles from that age. I also love the Japanese Kimono and aside from not being Japanese, I think I could have rocked that too back in the day.
