Hmmm-- I can see why you like the neckline-- on you it creates a perfect frame for your face and beautiful decolletage while the cap sleeves make sure your natural curves and shoulder line don't fight the squarer neckline.
I think the lace, if if feels nice and looks elegant and not cheap is something that really speaks to who you are an your style. I like the color as well. My only concern is sometimes these lace dresses can cling and then I end up with bumpy lumps where they don't really exist to the eye, but we all have minute crevices! It would be impossible to tell without trying though.
I think you are right on though--- on your body a slight/modified a-line with a nipped waist and some sort of cap sleeves and open neckline would be gorgeous, and I love the idea of lace or an embroidered mesh or chiffon for you. Something a little antique or retro.
