my bf & i went to macys yesterday to look for iron-free dress shirts, and left both empty-handed AND confused! the salesman claimed blue shirts of any kind were bad for a dark charcoal suit--something about 'not blending earth tones with neutral tones? this advice runs contrary to other posts i've read about the matter. he suggested a grey dress shirt with some kind of red power tie.

i know nothing about the nuances of mens interview fashion, and could use your help deciphering the code what colors go well with a dark charcoal suit? and for that matter, what color/design/width/length of tie?
