Except for high summer look for someone with messy grey hair, interesting footwear, pants/jeans & jackets it will probably be me

For winter: colorful bottoms, boots, leather and faux leather jackets, and hats...

Black, bags, boots, shoes, silver jewelry and minimal styles.

What would be really interesting is to ask someone else to define each of our styles. I suspect that we would pick out some different things about someone else's style than we would our own.

Greyscale - definitely your stunning moto jacket!! Also don't you think your beautiful red hair counts!! Of course, I'll be looking at all your posts for those "crazy pants" now!! I think you've brought up a really important point about choice and making a continuous decisions to cultivate old and new signatures!! Looking forward to seeing the fedora and boyfriend blazers!!
Aubergine - you do have an awesome collection of cardis and knit dresses!! Soft, refined, flattering and elegant!! Plus your lovely hair is most definitely a wonderful signature!!

Sveta - that is absolutely true. Your clothing fits you perfectly. I never considered that as far as a signature but it 's a fantastic one. God truly is in the details. There can not be true elegance or chic without perfect fit!!

A trench. Always, since I was a teenager. Not the same one of course...

I'm not sure I have a signature style ... too much bouncing around. Possibly leather motorcycle jackets and my short, asymmetric hair cuts.

I haven't got a clue

Gryffin, were we separated at birth by any chance ;). Off the top of my head...

Winter: Black, booties, blonde, blazers, oversized, Drape

Summer: Black, edgy sandals, blonde, silver accessories

Fun exercise to ponder! It seems to me some people like Ceit, Anna, and Caro share some of my signature style elements, but it would be interesting to see what others see in my style.

- Interesting footwear
- Jackets (weather allowing)
- Statement rings (I almost never leave the house without one)
- Colors: Black, cobalt blue, teal, turquoise, green, burgundy

Caro - I am a huge fan of your style!! You have such beautiful pieces and interesting combinations. It's such an authentic and individual aesthetic which I totally adore. I always look forward to your posts! On the hair, my read was fashionably tousled (a la JCrew) which looks perfect and sassy. Such great signatures!!
TraceyLiz- great list of signature pieces and you make such fun and interesting outfits. Fabulous to chase away the winter drear with color and fantastic accessories!!
Susie - great aesthetic clean, modern, refined, elegant, "black!!" (yeah Susie!!) and she's a bag girl!! Great statements and awesome look!!
Laura - you are right that would be really fascinating. Also would that be cool to see who "gets us." In a way, the forum has done that with the YLF meet us ie guess who's bag and shoes. To see if you know the person's style well enough (or were watching their WIW's) But that is a totally fascinating idea!!
Mia - I am humming "Moon River" as we speak. Holly Golightly, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo - the power of the ever chic and mysterious trench!! What a totally awesome style statement!!

Laura, I agree it would be fun to see how others would define our signature pieces!

I would say mine are...

  • full, high waisted skirts
  • brooches
  • bows
  • woven, frequently boxy/waist surrendering blouses with some type of detailing (pintucks, puffed sleeves, etc.)
  • flat shoes that are clearly comfortable vs stylish (lol)
  • classic crewneck cardigans
  • muted cooler colours

and sadly, likely a frequently at least slightly oversized fit, because I'm not picky enough yet in that department. Sigh. That's going to be my big style challenge of the year, I suspect.

Well, I don't think I've got anything I've worn every day for decades, but my current go-to is leather trimmed stuff - "mixed media". Like leather sleeves or collars or piping.

Oh wait. Duh. So much a part of my life, I don't even think about it: Puffers, of course, are my signature. Lol.

Black slacks and pearls.

Jacky - love your asymmetric hair cut. It does seem so much a part of your style and that gorgeous moto!! Wow! Again nothing wrong with lots of experimentation. You'll know what you really love when you find it!!
Diane - too funny!! But I must say you always look great!! So to quote "When Harry met Sally," ....."I'll have what she's having!!" We should all instinctively look so polished and refined!!
Deborah - you are definitely my style sister!! When I started to follow the forum, I did feel a little self conscious about having such a thing for black, well everything, but from the first WIW post of yours that I read, I knew that I was going to pretty much want to steal every thing you own!! I love your minimalist, edgy, refined style. You wear drape and architectual clothing better than anyone and have a fabulous eye for proportion. So just loving your lists and I am always looking forward to your WIW's!!
Janet - you know I've admired and lemminged some of your gorgeous footware and you do have amazing jackets (OMG that divine HL cropped leather be still my heart!!). Plus you have a gorgeous sense of color!! But I have not notice your rings. I'm going to have to start watching for that (along with MK's earrings). Great list and again love your outfits - you are always edgy, elegant, refined and interesting. I know you want to take your style to the next level but I think you look fabulous right now!!
E - no one does gorgeous gamine like you do!! You are like one of the great storybook heroines, in the best and most admiring of senses, like Sarah Crewe in "A Litte Princess." Who will E be today? what interesting time, place, era will she, and hence we, be enjoying?!! You are so amazingly creative and authentic, so well thought out but completely uncontrived. Your statement pieces are so perfect for you! I look forward to your fantastic WIW's and especially all your thoughts behind their creation!! Brava!!

RachyLou - I think many of us join you on the puffer/snow boots brigade but hopefully that will pass (can it be too soon?) Yes, definitely love your mixed media kick!! I love changing up the texture since so much of my wardrobe is black so I am a huge fan of this and of your pieces. Great choice!!
Gabrielle - wow loving it!! Black slack and pearls just say height of elegance!! I can not think of a more fab style statement!! (unless you add in a LBD with those pearls!! - happy dance!!)

This is a fun topic!

I think mine are

  • short hair
  • pencil skirts and fitted dresses
  • 3" heels
  • scarves
  • small black handbag
  • proper fit

I am starting to think that I prefer knits on top and woven fabrics on the bottom. I'll have to give this some more thought and see how I can incorporate it into my sewing this year.

Hmmmmm. I think, after looking through photos, black, white and grey and a silhouette of a more fitted bottom and draped and flowing tops.
I tend to like unstructured pieces, flat shoes and definitely knits.

Hmmm- maybe interesting accessories- shoes/belts/earrings, and lots of blue.

(Thanks for making me think about this!)

Booties. Skinnies. Blazers. And La Mer wristwatches.

Denim, colour and smile maybe;)

Hum... I guess my hair and cashmere sweaters.

Alexandra - Yes, your beautiful short hair cut!! Absolutely! Wow, 3 in heels, very elegant. So love the look but my knees are now happier in a lower heel but so fabulous!! Especially with pencil skirts & fitted dresses - refined, ladylike perfect, professional and polished!! Your scarves, bag and excellent fit are just perfect for your look!! Kudos!!
Debra - Love your color palate - although I have mainly black and gray!! Lovely, diaphanous, elegant tops sound wonderful esp with tailored bottoms!! Such a great look!! Love that knits are a signature!! Sounds just wonderful!
Lyn D - accessories are so fab as a style statement. Fantastic basics become so ravishing, interesting and versatile with the right accessories. Plus, blue is my favortie color!! So I am personally applauding!! But many times I wish I liked using accessories more - I think it adds so much drama and individuality to an outfit. Great style statement!!
Nicole - three words and you have all ocassions pretty much covered. Boots, skinnes and blazers - oh my!! Great look, great choice!! I am going to have to check out La Mer watches, I've never heard of this brand but I have not doubt they are fab!! Off to google!!
Ramya - there is no quesion that a smile is the absolute and most perfect style statement. How we greet the world and each other is so important. I think that it's wonderful that you made this part of your statement!! Of course great jeans/denim and fab colors never hurt either!! Love it!!
Catnip - you know I adore your haircut!! Sooooooooooooo flattering!! Elegant, sleek and very stylish but practical and unfussy!! Perfection!! Add cashmere and you have the makings refined, polished and cozy elegance!! Great choice!!

Take one blonde, and dress her in soft colours and a curvy sillhouette. Attach feminine shoes. Add detail at the neck and/or hem line, and try to include a flower somewhere. Serve warm with sunglasses and a slimline watch ;).

Lynne - you are such a total riot!! absolutely and completely awesome!! I love this!! Blonde, preferable plated in a long stemmed glass although a martini glass will do, served warm, delicately bathed in caramel sauce, side order of edible flowers, add murano glass floral wine glass charm, garnish with madigascar vanilla whipped cream and delicate shaved chocolate spirals - vivaldi four seasons must be playing in the backround!!

these are a fun read! & I certainly share some signatures with quite a few of you:

-boots
-jackets (leather)
-Turquoise Jewelry & big vintage rings
-colors: Black, Teal, Turquoise, purple
-long blond hair (but it has not always been long)

My shoes! My students and co-workers are always noticing my shoes. I am known as "the teacher with the best shoe collection."

rebekah - boots and leather jackets, what could be better. I think turquoise with blonde hair is an awesome look and your colors really play well with that jewelry!! Fantastic signatures!!
Karie - what a great moniker to have earned!! The teacher with the best shoe collection - I think we could all die happy with that!! Well done!

Ankle boots/booties
BF jeans
Pink
Asymmetric hairstyle
Eyes - (that is, I wear makeup that emphasizes my eyes)
Nail polish - never leave the house without my nails polished
A Sense of Fun - I really have to be having fun with my outfit - if not, I just don't feel like myself.

Several years ago, I wore my hair in a bob and one of my signature style items was hats of all kinds - I loved them! But, now that my hair is shorter, my hats have been banished to the top shelf of my closet (sob!)

This has been a very fun read! Thanks for starting Gryffin!
