Slightly off topic, but since you asked, I want to tell you about a pair of riding boots I once had, by the French brand Palladium. They were amazingly comfortable from the word go, and were all but welded to my feet for the five years I wore them.
I loved those boots, and had them repaired several times before I finally embraced the inevitable and turned them in. My mother, on the other hand, hated them with a passion and practically recoiled every time she saw them. I once asked her why, and she told me that they made her think of a painting by Paula Rego called "The Policeman's Daughter".
I can't find a picture of my amazing boots, but here's the painting. They definitely had a certain authoritarian quality about them. Go figure.
