Yes, it was unnecessary.

Okay. I'm cold while everyone else dresses like it's the middle of Summer. I'm thankful I don't have to take public transportation, but I would love to work in an office that's not frigid year 'round.

That's interesting, Rachylou. I don't practice calorie restriction, though I don't eat nearly as much as some people, and I have upped the exercise. I'm just always cold. My DH wants to retire in Miami, and I don't think that will be hard for me to do, except that my allergies flare up every time we go there. Still, I won't be cold there.

BC , you have completely missed the point . Commenting about other peoples’ weight or body shape is offside .

I reckon it is, but I think they don't feel cold like I do because of their weight. Feel free to disagree with me. I'm not commenting on their character or anything; just about how one's weight affects how one reacts to warm or cold weather. This office is kept at a frigid temp all year 'round, and I have to sit by a large space heater with layers of clothing all year 'round. Here's an uncharitable article for you:

Fat insulates the body's core temperature.

In general, I think it would be a good idea if we all tried to focus more on the topic of each post.

Those who
- want to discuss other topics or link to articles which have no connection with the actual post
- or want to exchange several statements with only one or two persons none of whom wrote the post
- or who feel a need to share plenty of details from their daily life
could perhaps consider to:
- start a new thread on their chosen topic
- PM each other
- start a blog

Gradfashionista, thank you for starting this interesting thread. And on behalf of those of us who have commented on other things than winter coats for public transportation: Sorry for hijacking.

This has gotten to be an ironic thread. One person who elsewhere says it’s fine to complain about what other people wear says here that it’s not ok to comment on what body types are likely to feel heat/cold faster, and then someone writes an off-topic post to say that if people want to write off-topic posts, they should go elsewhere. Anyone for some jumbo shrimp?

Rachy thank you for explaining how to effectively layer clothing. I live in a warm climate and have never coped with travelling into snowy conditions. Your advice is much appreciated.

Canada Goose Kensington here ... I just unzip it on the train. Bonus that everyone gets to check out my awesome outfit.

Back to the question at hand - I frequently travel by Amtrak and the Long Island RR, and my total travel time (one way) is about 4 hours. For that length of travel time, comfort and is a must. I wear a comfortable coat, usually hip length, and I usually layer a sweater underneath. I always travel with my big cashmere wrap scarf (it was an Angie pick from about a year ago). The scarf doubles as a blanket and even as a pillow.
