I completely understand not wanting to wear your work pants to an event. So I think you DO need something completely different and these pants fit the bill.

Do you need to get three years out of them? Maybe you could budget in a new pair of "fancy" pants every year, or every two years.

I've said this before, but a guest at my wedding in the 1980s stood out because she wore a dressy black pantsuit with her hair in an elegant chignon. All the other guests had floral dresses with shoulder pads (and big hair). Thirty years later, she is the only person whose outfit doesn't look dated when I look at the photos from my wedding, or view the video. She was true to herself and that confidence is still obvious to me many years later.

It's so important to be true to yourself, Sterling. And if you feel more *you* in pants, you're definitely on the right track!

I like your new bright pants. Def party-worthy! And I second dove grey, white and silver to complement the color.

Often, I wear simple clothes at weddings and just add in a bit of 'festive' touch with my jewelry (always just one piece though), clutch and sandals. All these pieces are also simple when you look at them alone....but together....the outfit looks dressy enough to be suitable.

Another idea - if you're NOT very fond of too much jewelry, I find cocktail rings add just the right touch to a special occasion outfit. Most ppl will notice your hands.... and a ring doesn't *feel* heavy.

Good luck! Can't wait to see what tops you add to this capsule!

Wow, Sterling, this post is so inspiring. I love your thought process and your planned summer occasion outfit. It's beautiful. Your idea of bright pants to show it's an intentional choice, and that your friends will recognize is definitely not something you wear to work, is wonderful.

Love the pants and your decision to be true to your style!
