I am going to a wedding in New Orleans later this month. The dress code is "Anything goes." I asked the bride for more clarification and she said, "It's New Orleans. You can get away with a lot there."
I have no clue what to wear. I have a fairly creative style in my day-to-day wear: lots of vintage pieces, lots of patterns and textures that I mix and match. However, my formal wardrobe is fairly conservative: a black shift dress, a brown shift dress, things like that. I do own a nice chartreuse vintage dress, but it's pretty heavy and probably not appropriate for 80+ degree weather.
How would you interpret this phrase? Any suggestions? How formal does "Anything goes" imply? The couple are both outdoorsy, creative people, and I can't imagine the wedding will be super-formal.
I'd prefer not to buy anything new, but feel I might have to.
