Wedding appropriate?

I'm getting ready to head out to a wedding, and am not sure about this look. Pictured is a tiered black dress, fishnets, and my new Franco Sarto boots. Are the boots too harsh for the prettiness of the dress?

I don't have many options, but could try:
1. Bare legged with peep toe pumps (can't wear the peep toes with the fishnets because they keep slipping off)
2. Bare legged with boots
3. A different black dress. The other LBD option is the Maggy London seen here: http://i649.photobucket.com/al.....G_0876.jpg
With/without fishnets? Boots? Pumps?

Any comments/opinions much appreciated!

I vote this dress with fishnets and fancy little clutch.

Confession: sans the fancy evening clutch and with pearls - this outfit is an everyday look for me. I know, I know - I'm a real Miss. Dressy Smarty Pants. It suits my persona and profession though.

hmm, I have a hard time with boots at weddings... it just seems to be such a casual/sporty look. It's a fab outfit though. You really can't do the fishnets with the peep toes?
How formal is the wedding?

I love the dress (though I would say that, since I have one that's quite similar that I just wore for the first time last night!), but the boots might be a bit edgier than is appropriate for a wedding? I think I might try peep-toes and bare legs, assuming that the weather is warm enough. But for a non-wedding, I think the look is great!

QM: I have no idea how formal the wedding is. It's outside on the top of a ski mountain, so I imagine that means it's less formal? I really can't do the fishnets with the peep toes. They slip off my ankle with every step (size 9 for a 8.5 foot).

This is a wedding for one of my graduate students. Does that change anything? (It will be a younger crowd...)

Re. boots vs. no boots at a wedding: I think it really depends on the venue, the people getting married, the time of day, secular vs. church, the formality of the group, and your style. A few weeks ago, I went to a secular wedding for two people who are actors and improv performers. The crowd was very young and hipster-ish, and both the bride and groom cracked jokes during the ceremony (in other words, a pretty informal wedding). The singer (a friend of the couple) wore an electric blue mini-dress, a very sparkly gold cummerbund belt, and some high-heeled booties with tights. At that sort of wedding, pretty much anything goes.

Your outfit looks perfect for the wedding you'll be attending. Have fun!

You look beautiful. Maybe this is a silly idea, but if you wanted to wear the heels with the fishnets, could you stick the shoe to your foot so it doesn't slip with some sort of tape - I'm sure I've heard that ballroom dancers sometimes do that to ensure their shoes don't fall off their feet?

Well, I made it! (Yes, Taylor, this is an AP dress. Nice eye! This is the second wedding I've worn it to and the second time that someone there was wearing the same dress! This time, the other woman was wearing the midnight blue version and styled it more traditionally, so it wasn't horribly noticeable.)

I had some second thoughts in the car (really? fishnets? too sexy?)- but once I got there, I was immediately ok with it. It was definitely *not* the most edgy outfit. There was a lot of great *young* style represented- good people watching! It was really interesting to see people's choice of footwear (mostly strappy sandals and pumps, but booties and boots were there too). And the dresses on the 20-somethings were quite stunning (but scary short). I think the most interesting outfit I saw was an airy, light colored tunic with some embellishment paired with leggings and booties. It was *almost* too casual, but she pulled it off nicely with accessories.

Alas, my fishnets are no more... I guess non-stop dancing increases one's potential for snagging. But i'll definitely be replacing them!

I am late but had to chime in and say that I love the look with the boots. I have the same problem with snagging. You are beautiful!! What subject do you teach to graduate students?

Mae has a Ph.D. in what I would call developmental psychology (as opposed to clinical psychology), and teaches in a Human Development and Family Studies program. She specializes in things like infant brain development and has a research concentration in infant sleep.

But personally, I'm more in awe of her ability to drive a stick shift...

April, I can drive a stick shift too. That's how you are forced to learn how to drive in other parts of the world - and it was a very traumatic experience

LOL- you're close, April. My Ph.D. is in Human Development (which, yes, is sort of like developmental psych, only without as much focus on psych).

And, you learn to drive a stick shift quite quickly when it's your only option and you're 16. Plus, I learned in AZ, where there is nothing but flat roads for miles and miles. Easy peasy! (But, yes, traumatic at the time.)

As for the size 9 shoes for an 8.5 foot- these are GOLD http://www.footpetals.com/Heav.....d=GLQW22GY....if the shoes are especially slippery you can layer 2 pairs

What a fantabulous dress and boots! You look wonderful. I can't believe someone else was wearing the same dress! I have never seen anything like that. Honestly, I would not wear boots to a wedding but possibly I have some fuddy-duddy sensibilities sometimes. In any case A+.
