I wear L'Oreal True Match foundation and it doesn't rub off on my clothes.

Personally I do like a bit of foundation as I feel it protects my skin from pollution as it acts like a barrier.

I used to keep a cushion foundation in my car or my purse for touch-ups, but most break me out so I haven't gotten a new one. A solid stick one is a good idea. I get the makeup worn off around the nose thing all the time in the winter, so I'm glad to read everyone's tips. I recently bought All Nighter spray and it seems to help with general long-lasting-ness, but it's no match for actual physical contact like with tissues.

Agree with km’s Canmake cream blush rec. second tinted moisturizer or add a drop of foundation to your sunscreen.

Wow, I'm surprised by how many people wear waterproof mascara on a day-to-day basis! I find it makes my lashes dry and brittle and irritates my already-sensitive eyes (wearing it and removing it!). I definitely wouldn't want to use it in the winter.

I use a tinted SPF year round, hardly ever use foundation. It doesn't transfer nearly as much as a traditional foundation because the pigment is pretty minimal (but so is the coverage). I've never had a problem with it transferring, but I suspect it's still a good idea to let it fully set/absorb before putting on scarf/hat etc.

Setting sprays are pretty good for keeping make-up in place but as others have mentioned I've never met one that really holds up to abrasion (such as blowing your nose). I mean, you have to be able to get it off somehow!

Wow! Beijing seems crazy cool! I had no idea you were living there!

I’m in Chicago. I’ve given up on wearing foundation in the winter because the crazy wind and wet weather make my eyes water and run my makeup off. Plus, the dry air inside just makes me look cakey. I use loads of moisturizer and sunscreen, and also use waterproof mascara. Lisa Watier and MAC PowerPoint eyeliners hold up well. My go-to Rimmel concealer that held up in this weather was discontinued, so I’m on the hunt for a new one that won’t streak.

Another vote for tinted SPF or BB cream. When I'm in cold areas, I'll moisturize right out of the shower, then add BB cream about 30 minutes later (I need something daily to even out the freckles).

Also, you might want to carry makeup wipes with you - they can remove the stains on clothing if you still transfer some color.

What a lot of creative solutions! And great reminders that hydration and multi-step moisturizing are both key to looking one’s best (and feeling energized, and preventing illness). I try to keep myself from taking super hot showers, as that dries out the skin, but sometimes I can’t resist. Do you think anybody would notice if I just stayed in the gym steam sauna for the next 3 months??

One of the best moisturizers (and facial cleaners!) is olive oil. Yes the same stuff in your kitchen! I use this from time to time in the winter when my skin is feeling really dry and flaking.

Shiny I had forgotten about olive oil! Sometimes I use coconut oil. The smell can take me away to a warmer place...a tropical place....

I also swear by Double Wear foundation by Estee Lauder. It doesn"t transfer to my clothing. I use mascara on the upper lashes only, in case my eyes water. Lining right on the roots of lower lashes and smudging it in takes the place of the mascara. I use Urban Decay eyeliner pencil, it glides on well. Allows time to smudge and fudge a bit before setting and staying all day. I think my color is either ?SMOG? or ?ROACH? ????? Both are lighter browns.

Also, when it's windy... I have some clear (no prescription) eyeglasses that work wonders to keep my eyes from watering!

What a great question - Tons of useful tips here that I will try out. Jessikams, what an amazing opportunity to live in Beijing. It sounds like it has its challenges but I hope it is equally rewarding. I’d love to hear more about your life there.

I will be sure to share more of Beijing life and fashion here in future! But for those who are extra curious, I am jnilesdehoff on Instagram and I post Beijing scenes on there pretty regularly.

Very heavy duty, but Dermablend is used to cover up tattoos & scars.

I think I'd just leave a ski-mask on all day !

...As long as you don't work in a bank !

I am with Cee. Jessikams, can you wear a knitted face mask/ baklava when you need to be outside? Then your skin would keep its moisture a lot better.
The weather where I live is not nearly as bad as what you describe but we do get snow and for Winter I wear thicker and more moisturizing face creams and serums. I like Ahava.

Stand out in a crowd, by Odin !!!
