I bought the skirt shown below and wore it for the first time on Monday. I found that the hem rolled up …. especially when I was sitting at my desk or in the car. It got so bad, someone actually asked me what was wrong with my skirt. I was embarrassed.

So do all of the skirts roll at the hem or do you think mine was more defective than some? I am truly disappointed. I spent a lot of time shopping NAS and it seems that the items I ended up with are not of the best quality.

I bought the same skirt in several prints and they all rolled up when I walked because the hem is unfinished.
I thought the skirt looked fab on others but I could not stand the raw hem rolling up so I returned them.
There are some similar skirts out there with a double fabric that may be better finished but I have not been able to get a hold of them in my size.
I ended up getting a stretchy knit skirt at WHBM that is finished and works out for me.

You can't have the hem acting up on a new skirt...I guess i would evaluate how much I loved the skirt and then decide if it is worth the trouble to re-do the hem..either from professional tailor or from you..It is a quite lovely skirt but you are to decide...Best...

I have the striped one and it is fine. I got the animal print one a few weeks ago and it rolls but just very slightly. My ruched one doesn't roll or perhaps I don't notice it on the non-patterned one.

That wiuld drive me mad. If it is not easily fixable, I would return it promptly.

Angie said that was a big problem with the lace printed one. I don't have that problem with the animal print version I got. My marble patterned one turns up very slightly when I walk but not badly enough that it drives me nuts (esp. Because the pattern makes it less noticeable.) It really shouldn't be rolling up at the hem much if at all.

My lace one does roll up. I guess I don't really mind it because I just take it for granted that some part of my outfit will be slightly disheveled every day, but I can see how that could get annoying.

I would be annoyed and would return it (which it looks like you did). It is a popular look for a skirt. You could check Ann Taylor as well. I bought some similar last year (plain teal and berry). Both had finished hems and stayed in place perfectly.

I bought the lace version and wore for first time yesterday. I noticed some hem rolling by end of day but it didn't bother me. I will keep one eye on that though.

The fabric on the plain and striped skirts (rayon) s different from those with a more elaborate pattern (polyester). The polyester ones tend to roll while the rayon ones don't. That said, I have noticed a great difference between individual skirts with the amount of roll that occurs. I returned a houndstooth one last year for that reason, but my animal print one (same fabrication) barely rolls.

Oh, what a bummer! I have two of the original ones (solid black and a black and grey stripe), and neither has this problem, despite the raw hem. They must have changed fabrication.

That's a shame. The dark lace pattern rendition of this skirt rolled up at the hem - which I mentioned when I suggested it in my top picks list. This pattern has behaved - so far - with my clients.

That's too bad! I picked up the VC ponte knit pencil skirt in the spring (by accident - I thought I was picking up what so many YLFers have already). It is a much thicker material and has a nice finished hem. Might be worth a try.

For comparison, here's a visual of the amount of roll on my animal print skirt after a day of wear and lots of walking. If it flips up, smoothing it down quickly fixes the issue. I think the more "structured" pattern of the lace or houndstooth might make hem rolling more noticeable, vs. in the more "random" animal print or marble.

That really is a shame, as it's a really nice looking skirt. But an unfinished hem on almost anything would be a deal-breaker for me. There's a reason why almost all garments have finished hems...

Oh I have been itching to upgrade my Target tube skirts (both with finished hems) to these popular VC skirts. I'm so glad you mentioned this because that would drive me crazy.
