urgent laundry question - please help

I dropped some food on a pair of pants I need for tomorrow's trip. Can I hand wash them? The tag recommends dry cleaning.

The composition is 88% Virgin Wool, 7% Nylon, 5% Lycra Spandex

I won't be too disappointed if I can't launder them, but then I will need to plan a new outfit and I'd rather be preparing for my trip.

Eek. The wool content makes me nervous. Is the area small enough that you can try spot cleaning it?

There is a dry-clean-at-home product you can find in supermarkets, drugstores, Target, etc that may help you if you have time to run to the corner.

There is more than one brand but the one I have at home is called Dryel. It includes something for spot-cleaning. You can test it on the hem first to be sure it won't discolor or something.

the wool makes me nervous too but there is a product - i think it's called Dryel that you can find in stores to help wtih it. good luck!

My rule of thumb is whether it says "dry clean" or "dry clean only." If the former, I'll give hand-washing a try. If the latter, I take their word for it. (I've never used Dryel--I've been using coin laundromats for a few years.)

hmm. I have never tried Dryel either. You all say it's great for spot cleaning at home!! Must give it a shot...thanks

Thank you so much for all the ideas. I spot-cleaned with a bit of dilute baby shampoo and Dryel-ed it and they came out perfect!

I'm glad to hear that it worked out! I've also had good luck with Dryel. They have some kind of cleaner that comes in a small tube in their kit and it is very effective in getting out stains. I find that I use some of that stuff even when I'm not using the whole kit.
