Fairy godmothers over the internet!! Yes indeed, that's very true. But I had an extra special one locally - thank you Celia for being fantabulous!
We were both amused and chagrined by the overwhelming consensus in favour of number two. We'd actually rejected that dress and put it back when the torrent of responses singing its praises began pouring in. We dug it out again and tried it one more time. What the photo doesn't reveal is some really wonky fitting in terms of bra exposure, stuff that a seamstress likely couldn't fix. Rina (she of wonder boutique owner fame) had picked the dress initially and loved the fit in most respects, but conceded defeat immediately upon seeing the bra issues. Celia also felt it didn't look interesting or modern enough in real life.
No. 1 was the dress I'd first seen a couple of weeks ago, and I had kept coming back to it mentally. It's made of a really gorgeous, substantial satin fabric, which is always a selling point to me. Celia decided it looked the most elegant and flattering in person. We all agreed with a few here that the armhole fit was off, and as we speak it's at the seamstress having that issue rectified. It's an easy enough fix, and when it's done there will be no bra exposure at all.
Thank you all so much for your speedy responses! We both wished you all could have been there with us shopping in person and actually wound up spending a good five minutes raving to Rina about the awesomeness of everyone here.
