Annagybe, I totally understand about the costs of a completely one-off design from an artist. Some of the rings I've found are semi-bespoke (see below) and I think I can work within those confines.

Sorry I didn’t mean to assume you didn’t know costs. I think it’s a totally awesome idea. I’m basically a fangirl of Wendy Brandes, and find she has really good info. And it might be helpful for others

I'M sorry! I didn't mean to sound starchy! The link about the process of making a bespoke piece is actually a great reference and a starting point for anyone thinking about commissioning jewellery. Because of the work my mother did (art teacher and later government arts administrator) I grew up around artists and craftspeople, so got a sense of what their work entailed and the cost of original art. A completely original piece might very well be beyond my budget, but I expect adapting a goldsmiths customizable design would be viable.
