Last time I was in jcrew very recently I felt like they were trying to be Loft, Club Monaco, and Talbots all rolled into one. And then they took a third of a small store which used to be just men’s and women’s clothing and added children’s clothing right smack in the middle of the store and almost right in front of the register.
Furthermore, the one blazer that I wanted to scope out from seeing it previously online was displayed so awkwardly that I didn’t recognize it in front of me. Additionally, the mannequin wearing the blazer was posed halfway across the store at the far end of the children’s section. And the blazer came in two additional colors in the store: of which there was no mention online. And even in the very small women’s section, it was totally unclear what was their organization scheme. It wasn’t grouped by item type, style or color, as far as I could tell.
And there were a few adult tops folded up on a table so close to the register that I had assumed were part of the new children’s section. I didn’t see them until I was just about to pay. I was actually interested in one and might have tried it on if I didn’t already make plans to meet up right after leaving the store.
Everything about this place was extraordinarily awkward. And the people staffing it were milling about not paying attention to the customers and then calling across the room to one another: partly on task but partly just gossip.
I’ve rarely seen a chain store run in so unprofessional a manner.
