Those clip things were so useful- except they put holes in the clothes sometimes.
I can see leg warmers being practical post gym, but haven't seen them back in the wild. Those tall, slouchy boot socks are similar though.

anyone remember button covers? I still have mine and would use them if I had a chance. I have some beautiful sterling ones. MIA bracelets. Hate to tell you guys but stick pins imho are a classic. I still wear 3 on a lapel of a blazer. Skirted leggings, stirrup leggings, jodphur fashion leggings turn up very rarely. Bodysuit which were out are having a new moment just like head bands. Does anything stay gone? Truly I'm still rocking what I love and if it's "rare" that's fine by me, just harder to add to...

Gryffin, I have vintage button covers from the 50s and they are so pretty I keep them even though I haven't ever used them.

Candies - goodness. Yes, we all had to have those, even though my high school was an 8-building campus in the Pittsburgh area. Snow and ice on the walkways between every class, yet we still wore those open-toed spike heels.

In an interesting combination of trends, I had a pair of gray suede high-heeled Candies boots where if you folded down the top, it exposed cuffs of knitted leg-warmers.

BTW, if you're watching Rose Byrne in Physical on Apple TV, you can relive all the 80s fashion trends. (Trigger alert: the show depicts an eating disorder.)

Candies! I had them. Probably my first pair of “real” heels. Shortly after, I got all feministed and decided shoes I couldn’t run in are not for me.

Legwarmers were back briefly around y2k, paired with Buffalo tower platforms.

I also remember skirted pants. Did they ever reappear?

I have held on to apair of gray leg warmers - but obtained after the 80’s- and occasionally use during winter, ar home. Either during exercise - I can add them to leggings - because heavy cozy socks don’t fit in my exercise sneakers- or add under wide legged track pants. And then remove as needed ( I do a lot of temperature- adjusting with clothing. )

Fun thread!

BIJOU: we had the same knickerbockers! I had black velvet and a beautiful matching black velvet jacket that got STOLEN from a restaurant. I was heartbroken. It was the most expensive and fashionable outfit I had ever owned.... the knickers were fun, though....

I didn't wear leg warmers myself but my stepdaughter wore them like Pippi Longstocking!

Cold shoulder tees? I think I have only seen them trend once.

anyone else old enough to remember multi colored toe socks with wedge sandals? i rocked this look back in 8th and 9th grade!

Kkards - yes - rainbow sox with Kork-Ease sandals (which by the way, still exist https://www.korkease.com/categ.....e=R&a).

Candies heels and Dr. Scholl's...

OMG toe socks!!

BUT did anyone own a macrame vest to wear with their flares? I had TWO of them. 1972 was a great year. 7th grade (the big leagues!) and I also saw Elton John for the first time that year.

So fun to hear about some of these things. Some ring a bell but not all of them. Fun times:)

I had leg warmers! 1985 or 6, wore them with my good friend to Jazzercise classes. So much fun. I guess my legs were better then.
I remember 80s fashion as so much fun.

If the cold shoulder thing does come back, I’ll sit it out again.

I recognize so many of the things people mentioned—my big sister had Dr Scholl’s, the toe Sox seem like forerunners of barefoot running shoes to me, macrame vests, many others. I’m curious if these were North American trends only, or also big in other parts of the world. Knickers were clearly everywhere. I don’t remember skirted pants in N America in the 00s, but maybe I just wasn’t paying attention. I have seen them as gym pants. Trends are globalized now—last summer I mentioned to a friend in Cleveland that young women here were wearing shoes that looked like bedroom slippers; she replied that she’d seen them on a recent trip to Toledo.

One of the more horrifying trends I have witnessed on the NYC subway is toe SHOES - and no, I do not mean the elegant slippers that ballerinas wear.

I realize they are gear and perhaps they are fabulous for running but the look is just too frog-like for me.

April, thanks for posting that—those are what I meant by barefoot running shoes (that could be worn with rainbow toe socks)

Team knickerbockers lol ... My Mom had me kitted out in a navy (of course!) corduroy pair in prob 1980 ... Finishing the look was a blouse with ditzy floral print and possibly a waistcoat although I might be making that last bit up ....

For one or two years in the early 1970s, the "hottest" jeans and pants you could wear here in Scandinavia were those that had a visible V-shaped seam across each knee. I have never seen this fad return.

Yep, I wore stirrup pants in the early 90s with oversized sweaters in garish (for me) colors with embellishments or boyfriend jackets. A formula for frumpiness and the reason why I do not look upon 90s style with any fondness.

This was the look! 1981-1983.....

Sort of new romantic, Lady Diana etc...

Another knickerbocker wearer here. My mom made me at least two pairs, purple and green corduroy, and with a floral print blouse to match (waving at Helena!) She also made me some Bermuda bag covers to coordinate with other outfits- another style that I don’t think I’ve seen return.

These are some great memories!
