Too much party on the bottom?

I am trying to choose an outfit for tomorrow (hence my late in the day shine). It's going to be a long day because I have my evening class on top of a full day of work. I like to wear happy colors to keep me going during the day.

So... I'm in the midst of a love affair with dark reds and berry tones. This color combo was inspired by Ornella's recent posts using fall foliage to spur outfit color palettes. Also Lyn* paired a cardigan and a waist cinching belt with a party dress to de-poof the dress (a bit). I was wondering how to pull this bright orange skirt into fall and into the office. Score 1 for me on the first count -- this is definitely fall, but I'm not so sure on office appropriate given my role a newly minted tax attorney. It's not so much the poof as it is the color which is every bit as bright as it looks in the picture.

The alternative is picture #2. I like it because the skirt is the same shape as the orange one. I also get the benefit of box pleats (yay!) -- nothing to de-poof and no color to downplay (less party).

So which should I wear #1 or #2?

I think given your new position at the law firm, I think that comes first before party - and would vote for #2.

Yeah, I love the *bam* of the orange but agree with lyn. The colors are quite harmonious on #2

Soooooooo...ummm....I'm not a fan of #1. It seems so bright as to be at odds with the muted colors that you've paired it with. Brighter, clearer colors and neutrals I could see with your bold skirt, but not these muted ones. (ducking now!) (And in my defense, you know I'm a little more subdued classic.)

I think #2 is very nice. Very flattering. A little conservative for you, oh Queen of Brilliant Color-Mixing, but still nice.

I love #1. I am biased towards the tomato red though, so that's why. #2 is lovely too.

K -- no need to duck. I asked for feedback. I am a little disappointed that the orange color looks a wee bit over exposed in this picture.

I am happy that I found a new way to wear that plum button-down under the camel sweater. It deepens the plum to a jewel-like tone which is almost a flat looking violet-red when I wear it alone.

YAY! Angie likes #1. I know how you love your sour brights and your bias is totally welcomed here.

I also prefer the #2 combo as a more office professional look.

#1 would be lots of fun for a more casual event. I think I would like to see it without the muted sweater, maybe just the maroon blouse and a big bold necklace that would bring some more colour up to your face.

Well then, I have the perfect excuse in overexposure. It is glowingly bright on my monitor and just barely orange. You are always such a sweetheart and so positive DV! I just adore that about you.

RunswithDolphins - I prefer #1 myself for casual affairs and I think I'll be wearing #2 tomorrow. I love your suggestions for a more casual outfit, but the skirt starts at my natural waist which is just under my bustline so belting this skirt is kinda tricky. I think #1 is going to get worn this weekend with some cognac boots.

Yes I want to see it with the cognac boots. Sounds great!

I really like both skirts. The second looks metallic bronze. For your office the second outfit may fit in more, but you still look polished and professional in #1 too.

I think I would wear #2 to the office - mostly because by the end of your long day I would not want to draw any extra attention to myself as I spaced out in the corner. But that's me not you!

I like #2, because it is more apparent that the tights and the button-down shirt are both purple. To me, that really pulls the outfit together.

Oh my - you look so beautiful! (in both of these!) I was all prepared to like the orange skirt the best, but I actually think I like the more muted skirt the best! You can't go wrong with either one though. Hope you have a good day!

I'll take a better picture of the outfit without the orange so over exposed -- it's not a neon color but it seems to have that look in the picture above on my screen. Off to get dressed.
