I love black booties and I love pointy toes. (And I love leopard.) When Angie posted the Brooks Brothers leopard pony booties in her boyfriend jean formula, I was smittened. They were on very discounted, and showed up in my size. I bought them in both the leopard and the black, reasoning that I could always return them if they weren't fabulous. They are fabulous, though. Really fabulous.

So, that leads me to my quandary. I have a great pair of CYDWOQ boots that have been my go-to black booties for a long time. They have a corset detail on the back that I adore and a sweet shape at the ankle. They have the signature CYDWOQ blunt toe, though, so they work better with pants and jeans than skirts and dresses to my eye. They are also getting a little older and more worn, making them even more perfect for wearing with jeans, but a little less crisp for the office.

The Brooks Brothers black booties have a lovely rounded pointed toe and seem like they would be a good update. They gap slightly at the ankle, but not enough to bother my eye. They look okay with black tights. The heel height is good for a long day of walking and the leather is incredibly soft. The pointy toe is soft enough that I can see it with dresses and skirts as well as trousers. I wonder, though, if I'm being a little overzealous and rationalizing unnecessary duplication?

Just in case you are wondering, I'm not a closet minimalist.

So, attached 1, 2 & 3 are pictures of the CYDWOQs that I already own. Pictures 4, 5 & 6 are the new Brooks Brothers booties.

Should I keep the Brooks Brothers? Yay (keep) or Nay (return)?

I'm no help, I have a weakness for black shoes even if they look only mildly similar to ones I already own :). Were they a really good deal?

I think they are similar, but the fact that the Cydwoqs are showing some wear justifies the new BB ones. The Cydwoqs are a little funkier, and the BB's are more classic and dressier.

How's that for enabling?

I think they are different enough. Both are lovely. And if you find the new pair are being worn more than the older, you can choose to move them on then:)

Though they are similar in style and shape, they read quite differently one pair to the next. The Brooks Brothers seem much dressier. So I say keep. But I have a closet overflowing with black shoes and boots. So take my opinion with a grain of salt, lol!

If you feel that you will get good CPW in the long haul, I vote keep. It sounds like you will be wearing them in different ways

Keep! The Brooks Brothers ones are killer. (People other than Angie are allowed to use that word in lowercase, right?)

I would keep the BBs, esp. for work/dresses since your old booties are starting to show wear and may be too far gone in a year or two. Finding booties with that particular heel is not the easiest.

I am not going to be any help with this question. I am just seizing the moment to tell you that DH and I were watching Homeland last night and I was dumbstruck at how much Claire Danes reminded me of YOU! It took me forever to figure out who she was reminding me of... I was like "Gwyneth Paltrow? My friend Meg?..." and then it hit me! My husband is enamored so no letting him see your outfits here!

Oh, Una, you've just made my day! I've always thought that Claire Danes was incredibly beautiful in a very gorgeously non-typical way. Always. Ever since I saw her in My So Called Life. (My DH has a huge crush on her too, so even better.)

Yes, to me they are different enough to warrant keeping.

Otherwise, the older pair could use a cobbler overhaul to bring them back to dressier shape.

However, maybe you DO want a pair perfect for jeans. . . ?

I think there is enough difference to enable you here, especially as the one pair is showing a bit of wear. I would keep both and enjoy!

I think the amount of wear the pair you already own has is a good indicator that you will get sufficient wear out of a new pair as well. And like others have mentioned, the new ones are slightly dressier and will go well with dresses and skirts while the other pair can be worn with pants. They are worth the purchase!

And you DO look like Claire Danes. Thank you, Una. It was actually bugging me. Every time I saw your photo I kept scratching my head wondering who it was you resembled.

I agree that the fact you wore the cydwoq's so much justifies the BB! How is that? Really they are dressier and sleeker so not a duplication. Now to contemplate the Claire Danes resemblance!

Oh yes! It was niggling at me too -- That is who you resemble!

I think the new booties are excellent and should stay!
