Thrifting, Take 2, Part 1

This is one of the items I got when I exchanged the blazer. It's not my usual style but it was love at first sight. I styled it three ways (per TransconnaShannon's Treatise on Thrifting.) It has deep slits on the side and the fabric feels like a very lightweight cotton--mirrored faux buttons embellish the front. I wish it had washing instructions--alas, only a tag that reads "Varnaki" size XXL (ouch--yes that hurt a bit.)

I think it will be a fun summer top. What do you think?

Love the last look!! Probably because of the sleek bottoms, fab shoes, and bold colors. I wonder if you could take the sides of the top in a little too around the hips if you wanted to.

@Scarlet: I think ironing will help it to fall better. It was pretty wrinkled when I pulled it from the bag. I may have to sew the slit a little lower anyway--not sure what will get exposed on a windy day.

Well look at you, finding such a gem in your early thrifting adventures!!

This is a FAB statement top and I like it best in 1 and 3. It looks better on the dressy side.

I love all these looks but #3 is killer to my eye!! This is a gorgeous tunic. Don't worry about the size, sizes these day do not seem to reflect realistically at all.

Super find, I love it in #3. Looks like it will be great in the heat. I suspect it's an Asian XXL which from what my in laws bring back equates to a US S or M. No consistency,

Now that's what thrifting is all about! It's super cute, different than anything you'd run across in your stores today (probably), and shouldn't have cost an arm and a leg.

I like how you've styled it and it looks like it could become a go-to top for casual summer wear.

If you have full length cigarette pants, it might dress up well too.

About the XXL, I was thinking the same as Jcsloane - that it was Asain origin and the sizing would be much smaller than US sizing.

It's treasure like this that keep fueling the thrifting fire

Great top! Very dramatic piece and lovely on you. All options are fab but I especially like the drama of the darker bottoms in #3.

Great find! Looks SO GOOD on you too. I agree, it looks best in #3 and then #1. In my neck of the woods there is little in the way of thrift stores.

OMG!!! Fantastic Kelly! I love all three stylings of it and think this will be a beautiful spring/summer piece. I love the drapiness of it. As for the size, don't even think on it - that's the thing with thrifting, sizes are all over the place depending on the make and era. I don't even pay attention to it anymore...a lovely fit is a lovely fit!

@AJ: You are another thrifting inspiration, AJ! I’m kind of amazed that I found everything I was looking for after two attempts. I’ll be posting the rest of my stuff later.
@Jsloane &TShannon: Thanks for the sizing info. I know I’m almost off the size charts when it comes to Asian sizing so that makes sense.
@MNsara: $3.49 isn’t bad, eh? The dollar really goes pretty far at the second hand shops! Slim pants is a great idea.
@Isabel: I thought the cargos had a harem/jodphur kind of vibe that would work well with the top. It’s not the most flattering silhouette but definitely something I would wear on a hot day when I need some coverage. I’m glad you like it!

Love it, Kelly! All the outfits are fab but my favorite styling is 1. What a great statement piece. But how could anything that fits you be XXL, even in Asian sizing?

As soon as I saw the top, I thought it looked like a kurta/kurti (the length puts it sort of on the border). The top is definitely from the South Asian subcontinent as "Varnaki" is a dead giveaway.

It's a beautiful top and looks great on you.
