I'm interested in this thread because although I'm not on a shopping ban I need to really watch my pennies for the next few months. Jenava - I'll be happy to be a tester for your outfit generator if you need one! Sounds like a really interesting concept.:-)

Jenava, the outfit generator sounds AWESOME.

Not to belittle your craftiness, but it kind of reminds me of a scene in Clueless where Cher has something similar. I also found this blog post about a similar iphone application:

http://mobigasmic.blogspot.com.....me-on.html

Count me in too, at least for 2-3 months! I also spent more on clothes in 2010 than ever before, and am feeling good about where my wardrobe is at right now. I do need to do some more dress/frock shopping when it starts warming up in Tucson, but I've got some time before I need to worry about that. And I'm well stocked on bras, panties, and socks, so I should be good to go!

Kari, mine will actually suggest outfits, and if I get fancy it might also suggest a shopping list. (-: We'll see. It's a lot of work, but I have my table structure pretty much laid out. I just need to create a data entry screen and then write the outfit logic. The idea is that it will go through and suggest outfits and then the user can mark the ones she actually likes.

Kate, glad to have you join us!

Jenava, that sounds like an incredibly fun and marketable idea. I hope you'll show us the results once you get it going!

OT: you are welcome to leftovers anytime, Kari

Angie, you are so cute.

I have leftover apple pie that I made taking up room in my fridge, so perhaps we can trade.

Deal. You know I have a very sweet tooth

I believe I will join in this challenge as well, from Jan 1 to April 1. I feel like there may be some holes in my wardrobe, but I'm not really sure where, and that I might also need to purge a few things and make my wardrobe more effective. I should (hopefully) see what I reach for again and again over the next 3 months.

Plus I can save my spending money and reward myself with something really fab at the end of my SYC experiment! LOL In the spirit of the challenge (like the binge before the diet) I went out today and used up all my giftcards from Christmas on new tops! LOL

Oh, and my only caveat for SYC will be gear. I may need to pick up some more winter clothing for running, and new sneakers can not be put off when the time comes. (Depends on how much running I do as to how fast I wear them out...) Other than that, I can't think of anything I need now. (I bet I won't be singing that tune in a few weeks or months! LOL)

Let the games begin!

Kim, I'm thrilled that you'll be joining us.

For myself, I really do think I need to commit to a strict 3 months, so April 1 will be my deadline too. Like Kim, I will probably make an exception for gear since one of my goals is to get into the gym more often, and while I'm set on tops to work out in, I know I need another sports bra and most likely will need another pair of workout pants too. I was able to find the Halogen seamed skirt in a petite size that actually fits well, and can let the length down a little, so I won't be breaking my SYC goal even if the skirt comes back in stock. My Nordstrom note is good for a year, so I can wait until April or later to spend it.

I *really* should budget for new running shoes. I won't even tell you how old my current pair is. But since I'll mostly be running indoors on a treadmill until spring, that can wait. There is a great place in Seattle where you can literally get an insert molded to your foot and they will help you select the best running shoe for you, so it's about the closest you can get to having medical custom-made orthodic inserts. My boyfriend, who has very high arches, did this a year ago and I'd really like to as well.

I'm tempted to join in, Kari, but feel wardrobe is not quite ready. Maybe next year! Good luck.

I am coming out of my 4-month fall SYC during which I was very good: I have just bought a pair of bootties for my b-day that I have allowed for before the ban. I have just spent a couple of gift cards for some tops but feel that is technically not breaking the ban.

I think that I will continue with the ban and join you Kari. I am not going to be as strict as before, that is, I am going to allow myself to spend gift cards and a very rare pick me up item that will have to satisfy many criteria in order to find place in my wardrobe. One of the main reasons is financial, but I have also learned that I have a huge wardrobe and that I get bored with most of the stuff before I have a chance to wear them out since I have many to choose from. I will be also joining for three more months, but will most likely continue with the ban in some kind of form after that too.

Well I binged before the diet. Spend any and all Christmas gift cards this week and ordered and received any items I had been wanting. This included a couple sweaters for skinny jeans from ATL, a pair of Ugg leather boots, and replacement gloves and black leans. I should now be set for starting SYC on Saturday.

Carole, no rush or pressure. We'll appreciate having you as a cheerleader! I wasn't ready either during the last incarnation. Well, that, and I also knew I'd be receiving a lot of new clothes for my birthday (which felt like cheating) and also would receive some discounted coupons during my birthday month that I wanted to use. Now that all of the December birthday/Christmas gift hoopla is over, it's time to be strict and enjoy where I have brought my wardrobe over the past year.

Tanya, that is quite admirable to join the ban *again* after a short break. Wow! You have such an incredible wardrobe that suits you to a T. I'm kind of in the same boat - I find that I get bored easily, and when I get bored I add a new fantastic piece, and before I know it my closet is overflowing. I need to learn to be content with what I have, because what I have is a full, versatile wardrobe (thanks to YLF, mostly) that is also much higher quality than it's ever been.

I can relate to the overflowing closet and the "easily bored" syndrome, Tanya & Kari. I don't have the bandwidth to join back up but I will be with you in spirit, and cheering you on each week. And I'll probably be shopping my closet right along with you, although I won't be making any formal commitments. Good luck to you all!
