Spring around these parts is typically short, and summer comes quickly. Heck, we already had a day when the temps approached 80 degrees, in February!
I don’t shop much for spring, per se. My “spring” purchases tend to be things I will wear in summer, and/or can be worn now, when there is still truly chilly weather. So we’re talking basics and classics, items that can be layered, sometimes new denim.
Inspired by recap posts that I’ve found very helpful lately, I have done a loose list of my own, covering purchases since the first of the year:
- New black Sanctuary cargo joggers. Confession time: the first ones I got in December shrank even though I laundered them carefully and hung to dry. They have been workhorses so I almost cried. But I found a size up on Zappos and purchased them in a second size. I’ve already worn the new ones multiple times, and I’m keeping the smaller ones for weight loss, because a mere five pounds will make them fit again, while the larger size will just be an option with a little more ease.
- Athleta white shirt. I’ve been wanting a new crisp but not stiff white shirt, and discovered this one! Fit is nice and it seems versatile — already worn twice layered under sweaters and jackets but will play nicely even without layering in warmer weather.
- Athleta Brooklyn joggers in an olive green. I purchased these on sale last week and they are slightly slimmer than I prefer but they stretch, and I’m losing weight slowly so I think they will fit with more ease come summer. I’m enjoying the jogger/cargo vibe lately, and these can be worn nearly year-round, for casual or even hiking. Still have tags on but I’m taking a trip next week and will probably wear these for the plane ride.
- L’Agence denim jacket — an updated denim jacket is very useful for me year-round and this has already been worn multiple times!
- Lilla P short sleeve black button front tee — will be very useful come summer, but good for layering year-round and has already been worn.
-French Connection color block sweater in coral/pink/toffee. This is a dupe of a style I got in navy/grey/toffee, a fun injection of color and has been worn a few times already.
- Four pairs of new socks from Bombas
I have some new pieces under review:
- Rag & Bone bootcut jeans — I’m between sizes, but the smaller ones are too short and I don’t like the narrowness of the leg. The larger ones have a nice ease to them but need to be altered significantly in the waist. I’m a little nervous about investing in an alteration and then going down a size as I am working on improving some eating habits.
- Proenza Schouler pants - these are grey version of the black PS trousers I already own. I love the fabric so much. They are slightly big on me but I didn’t like the fit when I sized down (I like them sitting a little lower on my hip). They’re expensive so I really need to consider carefully.
- Freda Salvador lug soled boots. I love the look — refined lug sole style with a narrower toe and low heel! But I’m ordering a variation in waterproof suede too, which has a zip and may be more comfortable. There is some light rubbing on side of my foot in the patent croc version.
- Allsaints patterned blouse that I posted on separately - it’s been altered and I need to decide if it needs to be taken in more.
I retired a bunch of old pieces that I already took to consign or donate, so no accounting of those.
I also got new hiking boots but I’m a little nervous about them. After three miles in the woods they felt a little like they’re rubbing on the side of one foot, but the next half size up felt too big.
I’m not really ready to think about summer yet, but realistically that will be my next shopping destination. Perhaps updated sandals of some kind, depending on what’s looking new and fresh this year.
I am a little nervous because we have a short tropical vacation planned for the end of April. I’m hoping my old bikinis will fit better by then, I haven’t dared to try them on in a year or more. (It’s not a one-piece kind of destination!) The last thing I feel like doing is putting on a swimsuit right now! But mentally preparing that may need a little shopping session for swimwear before then.
If you’ve read all this, thanks for sticking with my long-winded post! This is mostly for my own benefit as it has helped me quantify the year so far, which will help me plan…at least as much as I ever plan when it comes to my wardrobe!
