Thinking about giving away my colored/patterned tights

I did not wear any of my colored or patterned tights this past winter. Black solid sheer or opaque and black textured got some use, but I'm just not feeling the colors or patterns anymore, even though I was into that look a couple or three years ago. Anyone care to talk me out of it, or want to take them off my hands?

I would not say I'm getting more minimalist, but my choices are becoming more streamlined, and opening that drawer of tights today made me realize how my style has shifted.

Can you tell I'm doing some closet purging/sorting today? (Putting some things in the Style Exchange, getting together some donation bags, etc.)

If anyone wants a bunch of tights (some never worn), let me know! Otherwise, off to Goodwill they go.

If you're not feeling the love for them...and especially if you just went through another fall/winter season without ever wearing them....I'd go ahead and give them away.

IMHO just after a season is completed is a good time to make purge decisions because you have a fresh memory of what you actually wore.

I actually second your decision to purge them. Sorry! I just don't feel colored tights myself. I prefer black with matching dark footwear. But then I struggle with color and really struggle with patterns.

Honestly, you not wearing them for 3 years speaks volumes.

Janet, let go of the guilt. The coloured tights were an inexpensive fashion fix and fashion (or your eye) has moved on. Let them go to make room for the next it accessory.

I also hardly wore any tights this Winter, but that may also have something to do with the fact that I hardly wore any dresses or skirts:-) So I think I'm keeping my patterned hose for the time being (didn't have any coloured tights to begin with).

Perhaps you too didn't wear skirts & frocks all that often during the colder months, Janet? If so, I wouldn't get rid of all of them just yet, especially since we've been seeing lots of fab skirt looks in the Winter 2013 collections. But if you're really not feeling them anymore, then out they go (or at least do a bit of downsizing in the tights drawer;-)

I think the end of the season is the perfect time to purge unused items. If you didn't wear them all season and don't feel any future urge to wear them, then I would purge.

Inge, I didn't wear my skirts or dresses very much this winter either -- I was thinking about that as I went through the drawer just now. Nonetheless, I think a major downsizing was in order.

I kept some textured ones, my two favorite patterned ones (one in grey and black, the other burgundy and black) and a pair of burgundy ones, along with the other black and nude hosiery that survived the cut. So I cut it way down to the colors I'm most likely to wear and the patterns that are the most sophisticated to me now.

Eighteen pairs of tights are now in the Goodwill bag! I love that feeling.

Ah, a free drawer in my dresser! I moved my layering tanks and camis into it from their cramped space. Much better.

You've hit the nail on the head with culling so many of them but keeping a few. Good luck in figuring out if these have a future in your wardrobe or not.

Well done with the purging Janet. I wasn't into colored tights this year either - but I did enjoy wearing tonal patterned tights (black on black polka dots, etc.).

I haven't worn my colored tights much either recently. I still like patterned or textured tights, but I like them better in neutral colors. You made me think I should cull some of my tights too.

I didn't wear tights much at all this winter, but I find that I drift in and out of different looks from year to year, so I feel confident that my tights will be worn again.

If you want to get them off your hands, I'll be happy to help.

Janet, I am glad you posted this. I am a great purger, but the tights drawer is one area I tend to neglect. Like you, I hardly wore dresses and skirts this winter. And I am not feeling the love for my coloured tights, either. Out they go! Along with all those that have runs and other problems.

Sounds like a fab plan! Tights need to be purged every couple of years. When you are in love with them, wearing them all the time, it is impossible to let them go. But after they've had a good run, why not pass them along?

I tend to be indecisive about items that might truly go but come back within just a few years, since at some point I hate to use up my budget to re-purchase perfectly good items. So I like your idea of keeping a few pairs that you can play with styling but feel okay that you are not as likely to need such an extensive tights wardrobe. Though tights seem "basic" there will always be a style twist or improvement, so if you get on the bandwagon again, you are likely to want to try some fresh styles.

I did not wear my colored tights, either. I think it was because it was a colorful winter... The colored tights felt like too much. I think I'd say purge...like the others have said, these were inexpensive trend items. No need to save like an investment piece for when they come back into your style prefs.

I didn't wear many of my colored tights either. And you've reminded me I really should do a purge of my tights basket.

Ha, ha, ha! I'm so late to the party. I just started wearing skirts again this past fall/winter so bought a lot of tights including colored ones. Nothing like getting in on the tip of the tail of a trend.
