AnnaG, I lost a lot of weight by cutting out processed carbs like bread and pasta. Since I can't drink alcohol or eat sweets (hypoglycemia) or eat cheese (sigh... Post-baby I suddenly became lactose intolerant) I focus on eating protein, fruits, and veg. Lots of fish, also avocados and nuts. My diet is very limited but I still eat well and it seems to work! The biggest hassle is eating sandwich ingredients without bread, or pasta sauce without pasta. But... You get used to it.

I read a weight loss tip to cut carbs after 1pm. I've been wondering what I'm going to do on spaghetti night. Do you really just have the sauce sans noodles and eat it like a bowl of tomato soup?

AJ - I wouldn't bother if it's just plain tomato sauce. We tend to make chunky homemade sauces at my place, with a tomato base and sausage and/or lots of veg, or pesto made with collard greens and prosciutto. So eating it without pasta is more like having a stew or a purée. Yeah, seriously not optimal, but not awful.
